Jadeveon Clowney (DE Carolina Panthers)

So on the 12th, he says he's down to South Carolina, Alabama, Florida State, and Ohio State, with Miami now out. Then two days later, somebody writes an article saying that he's down to five, with Miami back in it and LSU replacing OSU. Either he changed his mind very quickly, or somebody is a terrible journalist.
Clowney met just yesterday with coach carroll and trimmed his list. the original article was correct, things have just changed since.

No doubt Clowney stays South, but Lemming and his lemmings make stuff up as they go.

Not sure if this has been mentioned in the thread but wasn't Derek Ross from Rock Hill SC? I remember Stephon Gilmore, another kid from this school saying that was the reason he was looking at tOSU. Just a thought on another connection.

Yes. Derek went to Northwestern High School. South Pointe HS is maybe 5 years old...Rock Hill is blowing up due to Charlotte's growth.

I have no doubts that he will be in garnet and black. I sat very close to him last weekend for the 'bama game and he had a great time. His mom has seen every game since he was in pee wee football and she was sitting right next to him last weekend. It will be a shocker if he goes out of state.

Agreed. Everything down this way has him in Columbia...but never know what can happen if he takes a few visits.

Fresh five update for Clowney

October 13, 2010
By Phil Kornblut

South Pointe DE Jadeveon Clowney (6-6 240) had been looking at seven schools, but now there are just five on his list according to his coach. Clowney got together with Bobby Carroll after practice Wednesday to talk about the five schools he's most interested as of this day. "Ohio State, LSU, South Carolina, Alabama and Florida State are the one he's looking at right now," Carroll said. Clowney has not scheduled his official visits. Carroll said most, if not all, will take place after the season though he might get to Ohio State for the Penn State or Michigan game. "I still think USC and Alabama are his top two in no particular order," Carroll said. Clowney had thought about announcing his school at the Under Armour game but now will wait until January after taking his official visits. Clowney has been to two games at USC and one at Clemson this season. He does not plan to attend a game this weekend.

Rivals.com - Ask Mike: South Carolina gaining

Gamecocks leave impression

Did Alabama's recent loss to South Carolina have any effect upon Jadeveon Clowney? I watched ESPN's interviews from after the game, and both Marcus Lattimore and Alshon Jeffery emphasized staying in-state. Is that the Gamecocks' big selling point?

- Jason from Birmingham, Ala.

Yes, I think the win by South Carolina over Alabama had a big impact on Clowney. He has always felt more comfortable there with former teammates on the team and his family close, but the big selling point for Alabama was winning the SEC and a national title, and how much further it was than the Gamecocks. Bama had last year's national title to sell, but now South Carolina has a head-to-head win to sell and the impact made by in-state stars in the game is huge. Yes, Steve Spurrier is preaching to the in-state stars to come to play at South Carolina. That makes sense. With Clowney, I think that approach is working.

WINNSBORO | South Pointe gets big region win over No. 3 Griffins

The Stallions stalled at the Griffins' 39, where they faced a fourth and 1. Carroll's first big decision was answered when he put all-American defensive end Jadeveon Clowney in the game. Quarterback Tay Hicklin handed off to Clowney, who blasted through the middle for three yards and a Stallions first down.

Again, Clowney got the call and showed why he is so highly regarded as an athlete. He blasted over right tackle, Griffins clinging to him, but shook free and raced to the endzone for the game's first score. It would be the only touchdown of the opening half and the Stallions led 7-0 after Landon Ard came on and boomed the extra point through the uprights.

3. One of the nation's top defensive recruits switched sides of the ball last week, as South Pointe (Rock Hill) defensive star Jadeveon Clowney played a little offense. He carried the ball seven times for 80 yards and a score in the Stallions' 17-7 win over previously unbeaten Fairfield Central. South Pointe coach Bobby Carroll told Palmetto Recruiting that Clowney had been looking at seven potential colleges but has dropped his list to five.

"Ohio State, LSU, South Carolina, Alabama and Florida State are the ones he's looking at right now," Carroll told the site.

South Pointe (7-1) comes into the matchup riding a 6-game win streak where they have outscored their opponents 202-61. The Stallions are led by the No. 1 recruit in the country and Channel 9 "Big 22" Player of the Year candidate JaDeveon Clowney.

Clowney, 6-foot, 6-inch, 249 pound, defensive end is a man amongst boys out there. Clowney loved contact and has delivered some big hits all season. He's been featured this season by all of the major recruiting sites and is the top ranked recruit in nation. The Stallions only loss came in the 2nd game of the season to SC powerhouse Northwestern, 42-20 which was televised nationally on ESPN.

No changes in top five - ESPN

UPDATE: After his game on Friday, Jadeveon Clowney told Josh Low of 247Sports.com (courtesy colleague JC Shurburtt) that his top five schools remain the five his coach listed on Oct. 13 (see below) -- Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Ohio State and South Carolina -- and that he still plans to take officials to all of them. Clemson remains in the mix, but the fact that the Tigers aren't in line to get an official (even though nearby South Carolina is) tells you all you need to know about where they stand.

Observers continue to feel that the Tide and Gamecocks are ahead of the pack.
