Jadeveon Clowney (DE Carolina Panthers)

Doesn't every defensive player target the offensive player? Or do they expect them to close their eyes now and play Marco Polo and hope they can tackle?

The thing that bothers me the most is that most refs seem to include the facemask and front of the helmet in what they consider 'targeting'.

Even with perfect tackling form, your head and helmet are going to make contact with the other person- especially if you both are 'getting low' like you are coached to.

It's human anatomy, the head protrudes from the body- it is going to bounce off of things when you make tackles which require you to lean forward to use your shoulder.

I totally understand the crown of the helmet and spearing being off limits, but it seems to me that more and more perfectly legitimate plays are going to result in BS calls based on any part of the helmet coming into contact with any part of the other players helmet during a tackle.

It's going to suck.

Agree. You lead with the top of the helmet, you can injure yourself. You look forward to prevent an injury, and it's a penalty? Ah hell naw

If that's an illegal hit going fwd, the future of college football is in doubt. The game will never be the same.

The over-officiating of the game and the eventual paying of players is going to end college football in particular - and all college sports in general - within the next 15 years at the most.

The concussion issue and NFL Lawsuit has all levels of football running scared. IMO it is impossible to legislate concussions out of football. Concussions have been downplayed in the past..now we must educate players to the consequences and then let them weigh the risks of playing football.

Clowney cleared of impermissible contact with sports agent. Surprised it wasn't on a cocktail napkin:

They cut off the part that said, "and if he did, we sure as hell aren't going to tell you about it or cooperate with you incompetent dumbasses. Thanks for sucking at your jobs! - South Carolina

This. Why any university going forward would cooperate with those goofs at the NCAA is beyond me. Conduct your investigation and then tell the NCAA..."Nope, we're good. Thanks though."

Katzenmoyer's hit was the best clean hit I can remember ever seeing...anywhere. It was clean, perfectly formed, hard as hell, nobody got hurt just deflated, and it was made in the open field "in space". Just keep rewatching it and you will see the absolutely perfect technique K showed.

Clowney's hit was to a basically defenseless RB who had just gotten the handoff and his helmet came off because his helmet didn't fit.

South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney

As the 2013 season goes on Clowney will certainly merit a thread of his own.

Unfortunately for right now, the news coming out surrounding him is in the form of smoke.

He has not been accused of doing anything wrong, he is not under investigation as far as I know, and mods please delete/merge this somewhere as you see fit (or rumor mill it?).

But. . .

Various internet detectives have noticed that an ebay seller selling lots of Manziel autographs, and who many think is a key figure in the investigation into Manziel, is also selling Clowney autographs in bulk.

But here is where it gets interesting, when some guy searches for Clowney authenticated items on eBay:

If Johnny Manziel signed bulk autographs, was he the only one?

To see if there was a consecutive sequence of Clowney items, I started plugging in other nearby numbers. The series of 151 JSA Certificates from I57600 - I57750 contains only Clowney autographed items . . .

I also noticed other JSA Certified items that appeared to be part of different sequences.

With this information, I went back to the verification search and discovered a much larger sequence from I65152 - I65409 of 258 consecutive Clowney autographed items.
(Emphasis added.)

That's a lot of items signed by one guy and collected by one broker. . .

According to a tweet by Bruce Feldman, South Carolina's compliance is aware of the situation and has no indication of a violation.

Braxton Miller was named in this "investigation" as well.

I think it would be naive to think that these guys have signed everything for free. It looks like it may be the sheer volume of Manziel stuff out there, in addition to the brokers talking, that puts Manziel under the spotlight.
