The media has made it a point to say that tsun finishing on a loss and other teams still having two games left is a disadvantage for them. I disagree. They are sitting better than anyone except USC.

especially since arkansas lost to lsu

If the team has the same thoughts as you all seem to our biggest problem is overconfidence no matter who we play. I don't think anyone can stop our offense. I think we can hold down anyones offense.

Ah, the polls and the people who vote in them. Michigan beat Notre Dame AT South Bend, lost to Ohio State in Columbus and somehow we're suppossed to believe that USC... who beat Notre Dame at home and lost to Oregon State is number 2. It pays to loose early.

Tressel has a knack for keeping his players focused. There is a concensus respect and maturity that kids playing for him show on a weekly basis. Even when Troy Smith says he believes we are the best team in the country, it's done in a way that isn't arrogant. It's his way of motivation and a great drive for a team that started the year the same place they're in now! I don't expect every player to play their best game every time out, but I have a large amount of confidence about how Jimmy T. prepares the buckeyes mentally for the big ones. In his own straight-laced ways, he has more control over his teams emotion than any coach I've ever seen. At any level. With him at the helm, they have a quiet confidence, which is not overconfidence. It's the kind that is positive and motivates all the kids to play their absolute best. Pete Carroll is a buddy-buddy media friendly coach that is very good at getting freak-talent. His close-game skills are questionable because USC has played so few wire to wire games in the past 5 years. I couldn't imagine someone with such a lack of come-from-behind experience looking at a 7-14 point hole against our buckeyes.

What's the point in playing tsun again?

what a rematch would prove:

(1) beat them twice in one season

(2) split a 2 game series with them

(3) BCS system really doesn't work and we need a playoff

(4) Corso's never wrong and wears that stupid winged helmet again

(5) winning 3 straight and 5 in 6 years means nothing

(6) exact same record and only loses to each other and still lose NC?

(7) Big Ten really is the best conference in CFB with tOSU and tsun alone

(8) beating the second best team twice is required for the NC

(9) if #8 is true why didn't USC and Texas play again last year?

(10) winning three #1 vs #2 games in one season = GOAT

BITCH!!!!

well, i know that it's not transitive, but they kicked the shit out of Oregon State 42-14...
Okay... is that worth something? Boise gets lots of pub and very few chances to prove their merit... I'd like to see how they stack up against a #2 SEC team.

USC hasn't lost a game by more than one touchdown since Carrol has been coach!
So, we all know what we're in for.........a scUM like shoot out!

See 2001 vs. Notre Dame
Notre Dame beat USC 27-16 during Carroll's first season

I think the game will be over at half time. No way can USC stop the Ohio State offense. Too many threats.

OK I earned that. I didn't mean to suggest that I want to see a rematch. It's over for this year. I just don't like the idea that USC is automatically number two. I want to see the Big 10 go 1,2,3 at the end of the polls/bowls. And I wanted to pint out the absurdity of loosing a game two weeks later than another team automatically translates into a drop in the polls. I still believe, based on what I witnessed during the season, that Michigan is the #2 team in the US.

ND v. Boise State

I think they have to match up ND vs. Boise State or the Big East Champion, if they get in the BCS. I would just relish watching Boise State beat ND. That whole state would go crazy!

I was just reviewing Florida's schedule. They beat several tough teams and had a harder schedule than USC. All things being equal, the championship bowl will pick USC. They are a more attractive story and will attract more fans.

We haven't played a team with as much talent as USC this year. But Michigan was more disciplined. It will be great to watch Troy and Co. deal with the adversity of playing such a talented team AND overcoming that adversity.

I don't see a low scoring game any which way. We are going to put points on the board! USC is going to score some points too, but I don't think as many as Michigan.

This game will be the toughest, hardest fought game we've played all year.

You're obviously entitled to your opinion, but there is no way this game will be a tougher or harder/physical battle than the one we just played. It could be more electrifying but not tougher. Ohio State and Michigan know and hate each other with more passion than a USC player will maybe ever get to experience. USC has more athletes top to bottom than michigan but the play after play battle within the battle will favor the Bucks. If USC were to win it would be big plays on their part and the lack thereof on ours. I don't believe the latter will happen thus making us the National Champions once again.

The last time Ohio State and Southern California met with the national championship at stake, Woody Hayes was prowling the sidelines as coach of the Buckeyes and John McKay for the Trojans.

USC won 18-17 with quarterback Pat Haden throwing to Shelton Diggs for a two-point conversion with 2:03 left in that 1975 Rose Bowl thriller.

Thirty-two years later, the Buckeyes and Trojans are on track to meet again for the national championship, this time in Glendale, Ariz., on Jan. 8.

USC need only win at UCLA on Saturday to cement the matchup with No. 1 Ohio State (12-0) already locked into the national title game.

``If USC wins Saturday, it's a 99.9 percent certainty the Trojans and Buckeyes meet for the national championship,'' BCS analyst Jerry Palm said.

The Trojans (10-1) moved in position Sunday by leaping over Michigan (11-1) to No. 2 in the newest BCS rankings.

USC made its move on the heels of an impressive 44-24 rout of Notre Dame on Saturday night.

The Wolverines slipped to No. 3 with Florida (11-1) remaining at No. 4 after the Gators struggled to hold off unranked Florida State.

For Gators fans, there's still a distant hope of playing for the national title.

If UCLA upsets USC, the No. 2 spot boils down to a choice between Florida and Michigan. The Trojans are a 13-point favorite to beat UCLA.

The BCS rankings are based two-thirds on human pollsters and a third on the average of six computers.

The Gators are a 2-point favorite to beat Arkansas on Saturday in Atlanta for the SEC Championship with Michigan idle.

Palm believes Florida will pass Michigan in the computers with a victory against Arkansas, but the Gators will still need a lot of help from voters to climb over the Wolverines in the overall BCS rankings.

``I think Florida can catch Michigan, but Florida would have to win impressively [in the SEC Championship],'' Palm says.

If the Gators jump Michigan in the computers, they may still need as many as 15 voters in the Harris Interactive and five in the USA Today coaches polls to move the Gators ahead of Michigan, voters who currently have Michigan higher.

``I think the BCS has done the best it possibly can in a very difficult position,'' Florida coach Urban Meyer said Sunday in an SEC Championship teleconference. ``For anyone who thinks logically, it is not the best system. But it's the best at this time.''

Questions have loomed over four of the past six BCS Championships with controversy erupting over teams protesting that they were left out. It could mark the second time in three years that an SEC team is one of the protesting entities.

``I wasn't here when Auburn was left out,'' Meyer said. ``I will say this: I always wonder when people try to compare our league to other leagues. I've coached in other leagues against a lot of other teams and there's no finer league than the Southeastern Conference.''

Ohio State and USC have met in four Rose Bowls where the winner was named national champion. Ohio State has won two of them (1954 and '68) and USC two (1972 and '74).

This article is incorrect. The last time tOSU and USC met with the NC at stake was the Rose Bowl after the 1979 season. Ohio State was #1 in the AP poll, with only a 2-point lead over Alabama. USC was #3. If tOSU had won the game, the Buckeyes would have been #1. That was the Charles White-Anthony Munoz game where a long, late TD drive gave USC the 17-16 victory, but Bama ended up #1 since they had a perfect record and USC had a midseason tie against Stanford.

A note on the 1975 Rose Bowl. Whichever team won the game would have been named UPI NC, but the teams didn't know that at the time. Alabama was ranked ahead of both teams, but lost to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl later that night, in Ara's last game, knocking Bama out of the NC for the second straight year.

Although Bama has 30 bowl wins, the 1975 Orange Bowl marked the 8th straight bowl appearance for them without a win (1 tie was in that streak). Of course, ND now has a current record streak of 8 straight bowl losses.
