Worker dies at Long Island Wal-Mart after being trampled in Black Friday stampede

A worker died after being trampled and a woman miscarried when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island Wal-Mart Friday morning, witnesses said.
The unidentified worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.
Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.
"He was bum-rushed by 200 people," said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too...I literally had to fight people off my back."
Nassau County Police are still investigating and would not confirm the witness accounts. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. Police did say there were several injuries but weren't more specific.
Jessica Keyes was among the shoppers. She told the Daily News she saw a woman knocked down just a few feet from the dying worker.
"When the paramedics came, she said 'I'm pregnant,'" Keyes said.
Paramedics treated the woman inside the store and then, according to Keys, told the woman:
"There's nothing we can do. The baby is gone."
Before police shut down the store, eager shoppers streamed past emergency crews as they worked furiously to save the store clerk's life.

People are fucking stupid. Lining up for hours, stampeding into a department store, FOR A CHRISTMAS PRESENT?!?!?! If you're one of those people and that comment offends you, too bad. I'm not sorry. I've laughed at the "Black Friday" frenzy over the years but it's not funny anymore. Christmas is becoming an absolute joke because of our obsession with stuff and things.

In the 1930s we lined up for soup and bread in the Great Depression because we needed to survive. In the 21st century we line up for HDTVs and video games because we're overgrown children in need of toys. :ohwell:

So I stopped by Wal-Mart this morning to pick up a Rip Stick for one of the kids. I walked in through the door at 5:00 AM and seriously felt like I was in a war zone. I turned around and fought my way through the crowd of middle aged women and returned home. I actually saw two women fighting over a kids motorized jeep.

Scary stuff. Normal women turn into savages on Black Friday. I would much rather just pay a couple of dollars more for the stuff I get. I talked to a friend who actually stood in line for 2.5 hours for a Wii. Crazy

They interviewed a woman on TV who waited in line for 8 hours for the latest edition of Guitar Hero. :shake:

let me guess, not a single charge of manslaughter assault or even disturbing the peace will be filed. these motherfuckers literally murdered two people and not only didn't care about their actions. they went on SHOPPING as if nothing happened. i would venture to guess not a single person not an employee even stopped to see if they were ok.

part of me agrees with muck that these pathetic fucks don't deserve to live. but at the very least that store should have been locked down and every single customer should have left in handcuffs.

One might say there is no such thing.

You can't tell me you didn't see this coming... I've also said that the automatic entrance doors to Walmarts should be connected to weight scales.

That's why I shop at Target... don't need any additional incentive to lay off the pork rinds, flavored drinks, and cheese puffs.

Shots fired at Toys R Us in Palm Desert; 2 reportedly dead

    12:42 PM, November 28, 2008
A gunman opened fire at a Toys R Us store in Palm Desert, killing two and causing shoppers at the busy store to scramble for cover.
Riverside County Sheriff and fire officials responded to a report of a shooting and two gunshot victims at 11:32 a.m. at the toy store in the Desert Crossing Shopping Center at 72314 Highway 111, said Cheri Patterson, information officer for Riverside County Fire and Cal Fire based in Perris.
"We have two dead individuals inside the store," said Dennis Guitierrez of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, told the Associated Press. "The events of why the shots were fired is still ongoing."
Details about the shooting were still spotty, but witnesses said the scene at the store and nearby businesses was chaotic. The witnesses told TV stations that shoppers were evacuated around 11:30 a.m. and were told a gunman was in the store.
?I?ve got a bunch of people from Toys R Us that ran out of the building,? Jeff Vallaire, a worker at a nearby World Gym, told the Sun newspaper in Palm Springs. ?I?m just hearing from what they told me. They ran out the back. They heard gunshots and came in here. ... It?s pretty crazy around here right now."
