iPhone/iPad App Recommendations & Reviews

Anyone have trouble with RedLaser? I can't get it to scan. Maybe the room I'm in isn't optimal.
Try scanning something flat (like a bar code on a box) in a well lit room. Hold the camera away from the item so nearly the entire item is in view of the camera lense, then slowly bring the two closer so that the bar code fills the screen. Just try and keep it centered and steady.

It takes some practice at first.

BTW, RedLaser does have a better selection of "real" online retailers showing up, so the prices have more relevance to nearby brick & mortars. There's a lot more value in the app now than there was a couple months ago.

I just found out Flintstones vitamins are cheapest at Target. $2.20 cheaper than Walgreens. This app is so nifty! :p

It must have been the shit-poor lighting in my office. It worked just fine at home.

Interesting... I read somewhere online that almost all photos taken with an iPhone include embedded GPS information in the pic about where the pic was taken. As a result you can pull photos from someone's website, facebook, etc and find out, as far as getting to the address and pulling up photos on google maps, of the locations and buildings that the photos were taken in.

Scary stuff if someone wanted to do some stalking.

Sounds like an SVU episode.

I thought this was real until I read the end.. dammit man, I about jizzed in my pants.

I could definitely help with this, but it would require some help on the Buckeye Planet side (APIs, or better RSS feeds, etc). Scout's RSS feeds were much more conducive to reformating for the iPhone.

Mixology - there is a free version with ads (which is what I have) and then a premium version. It's basically a searchable database of drinks - it's worth a free download. You can browse by category, ingredients or pull up random drinks.
