iPhone/iPad App Recommendations & Reviews

Worth the $5 for the iPhone version?

It plays like a champ on my iPad. On my iPhone 3GS... it plays, but it lags. You probably get a little more out of it if you have an iPhone 4 or 4S. Touchscreen controls take some getting used to, but they're highly customizable (e.g. you can steer by accellerometer, digital L/R or simulated analog thumbstick.) My initial impression is that the touchscreen controls are better on my phone than the tactile controls ever were for GTA Liberty City Stories on my old PSP. If you can look past the flaws & limitations or get used to them, I'd say it's worth the $5 for sure.

For those of you that enjoy a pint or two on occasion Untappd is a great app for checking in your beers and getting recomendations of what you might enjoy in the future.

I've been using Pintley for a while now - a similar app. I'd gladly switch to a different beer app though if more people are doing one than another, just so I can see what other people here are recommending.

For any musicians/pianists out there, Moog Music Inc has released Animoog for the iPad.

http://moogmusic.com/products/apps/animoog

Animoog is a "anisotropic" synth that can generate most of the tones the Moog product family has been famous for since the late 60s -- sounds popularized by the legendary prog acts of the day (Pink Floyd, Rush, Yes, ELP, Genesis, etc). What makes this really incredible is the multitouch capability where you can 'visually' shape the sound by directly manipulating the oscilloscope. This is a really, really incredible app.

So, if you want to pretend you're Rick Wakeman, Richard Wright or Keith Emerson or somebody check it out. Includes MIDI in/out. The retail price of the app is $30 (which puts it in the established price class of other "professional" iPad audio tools such as the Korg iMS-20). However, for 30 days only, Animoog is being priced at $1. Don't miss it.

There was a game we used to play when we were in the 6th grade on our PCs called Dope Wars:

Yup, played in H.S. all the time.

I'm playing Great Little War Game

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/great-little-war-game-hd/id426392350?mt=8

Fun strategy, turn based war game. Reminded me of Advance Wars on GBA growing up. I bought it when it was $0.99 and at $2.99 currently, it's still worth it. Very addicting

I bought it for $.10 over the holidays, it had great reviews so for that price I couldn't resist. Plays great on my Samsung Galaxy S, but I haven't gotten too deep into it yet.
