Iowa @ tOSU, Sat Oct 22, 12pm, FOX

This is the kind of team we just don't force the issue with on offense. If they're giving CJ 10 yards then I hope he takes the free 10 yards instead of throwing it into triple coverage.

As long as the defense shows up like they have and the offense doesn't get impatient then it'll be a good win. I'm thinking 42-10 or something.

As bad as their offense is teams like this always find ways to get on the board which is always annoying.

There's a game simulation on YouTube of the game, and they had Ohio State winning by a score of only 27-10. I'll say we'd get to 27 by halftime and Iowa won't score 10 points in the whole game.

Well, full disclosure, I'm a sad sumbitch because I watched 3/4's of this thing before I said, "What the hell am I doing?" and quit yelling at the stupidity of some of it. I mean, they were throwing passes to the running backs in that game. Pfffttt.
If we get a pick in the first quarter inside their 25 yard line, they are going to get blitzed worse than Wisconsin.

PRESSER BULLETS: RYAN DAY SAYS THE IOWA DEFENSE IS “VERY EFFECTIVE,” OHIO STATE “GOT A LOT OF GUYS REST” OVER THE BYE WEEK AND REFLECTS ON 2017 LOSS TO IOWA

  • Day says the Buckeyes "got a lot of guys rest" over the bye week, but isn't going to issue any specific injury updates at this point.
  • On Iowa's defense: "They're very good at what they do." Day says "there's a reason they're ranked so high, and year in and year out they're one of the best defenses in the country."
  • "There's been really good things, but that was the first half of the season. ... Nothing we've done in the past matters anymore." Day says all the biggest challenges are still ahead of the Buckeyes.
  • Day says C.J. Stroud's "body changed" over the offseason and it's allowed him to do more outside of the pocket this year.
  • On the cornerbacks: "They've been working hard. They understand where they need to get better. We'll find out Saturday."
  • Day says the emphasis this week will be on Iowa, but the team will still be hammering fundamentals and techniques "because that's what Iowa's good at."
  • On Iowa's struggling offense: "They're not looking or interested in scoring a million points or putting up a ton of yards." But Day says the Hawkeye recipe on offense has been successful in the past.
  • Would JSN still be a starter if he was back healthy for the Buckeyes? "Yeah, I would say so."
  • Day says he "didn't have a lot of expectations" for Steele Chambers coming over from linebacker, but now "we're counting on him to be a starter for us." Day says "we're gonna need those guys if we're gonna reach our goals."
  • "The punt can be a huge weapon for you." Day says field position battle-type games are coming for the Buckeyes.
  • Day says "there's a whole bunch" of things the Buckeye offense can improve on after the first six games. "We've got to bring it every single week."
  • Day says Ohio State can't focus on the number of touches for guys like JSN when they return to the lineup for Ohio State. Day says the Buckeyes will have to "guard from" trying to target a guy on offense just to get him going.
  • On the caliber of Iowa's defense: "We've been there before, we've seen it live and in color against these guys."
  • Day says Paris Johnson Jr. has "done a lot" both on the field and "in life." References Johnson's foundation. Day says "in three short years, he's made a major impact on this team."
  • On who Day decides to visit for Friday night games recruiting-wise, Day says he relies on his assistants and input from Mark Pantoni.
  • Day says there's been great energy and juice surrounding the team since returning to the WHAC after the bye week.
  • Day says he had "the TV's going" to watch as many games as possible on Saturday while he had a bye week.
  • Day says Jim Knowles "had an affinity for Columbus" and "has a lot of friends here." Day says "the goal was to keep him here as long as we could."
  • Day says Knowles "seems to really enjoy it at Ohio State."
  • Day says he's "proud of (Luke Lachey) and the way he'd played" for Iowa. Day says he knows Luke and the Lachey family.
  • Day says every week there's a back-and-forth with the Big Ten every week about specific penalty calls, and that some "hit a little closer to home" than others.
  • On the Iowa defense: "They don't do a ton, but when they do change it up, it's very, very effective."
  • On the 2017 upset loss to Iowa: "It's a scar, that doesn't go away. I've felt it this week, for sure."

Iowa's defense is probably going to take that approach and try to take away the deep ball. Problem is (for them anyways) that our WR's turn 10 yards into huge plays regularly, so that is probably not going to work. I will say that their safety Cooper DeJean is legit though, that kid is going to be playing on Sundays for sure...definitely don't want to press him over the top if the throw isn't there. But I really think we're going to make Iowa's defense look a hell of a lot more vulnerable than other teams have thus far.

On giving up some points to Iowa, I hear ya. There may be some fluke points, I just don't see them getting past 10 points max even with that. I would expect a ton of back shoulder throws given our CB's issues with defending those so far and Petras' utter lack of throwing ability...even then, I don't think Petras can get the ball in the right vicinity 90% of the time and they don't have any playmakers at WR, so I wouldn't expect them to even have half the success that MSU did last game.

LUKE LACHEY EXCITED TO RETURN TO HIS HOMETOWN AS FATHER PREPARES TO CALL HIS SON’S GAME AT OHIO STATE THIS WEEKEND

133957_h.jpg

Growing up in Columbus, Luke Lachey went to just about every Ohio State home game from the time he was seven years old.

Lachey’s father, Jim, was an All-American guard for the Buckeyes who is now the color commentator for Ohio State’s radio broadcasts. Raised in a house full of Buckeye fans, the younger Lachey has fond memories of throwing a football around before and after games at the Shoe on Saturday afternoons.

Luke Lachey is hoping to catch some more passes at Ohio Stadium this Saturday, but this time he’ll be there as an opposing player when Ohio State hosts Iowa in both teams' seventh game of the 2022 season.

Before Lachey became a Hawkeye, he had hopes of following in his father’s footsteps and playing for the Buckeyes. A three-star recruit out of Grandview Heights High School, Lachey camped at Ohio State during the summer of 2019 in hopes of earning an offer from his hometown school. Ohio State ended up offering fellow in-state tight end Joe Royer instead, and Lachey went on to commit to Iowa just over a month later.

While Lachey was disappointed not to receive an Ohio State offer at the time, he believes he ultimately ended up in the right place.

“It was definitely disappointing at the time, but I remember I was driving to the place we vacation at, Bald Head Island in North Carolina, and I was in the car with my dad and I got off the phone with (Ohio State offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Kevin) Wilson and then right after that I set up a visit to come to Iowa,” Lachey said Wednesday. “And so it all kind of worked out in the end for me. I think that that might have been the best thing for me. I love where I am. And I don't think there's a place better for me.”

Now a redshirt sophomore at Iowa, Lachey is the Hawkeyes’ second-leading receiver this season with 157 yards and a touchdown on just nine catches. In an offense that regularly utilizes multiple tight ends, Lachey has played 248 snaps this season as Iowa’s No. 2 tight end, per Pro Football Focus. He has started each of the Hawkeyes’ last four games.
