Easier to mash the extra base hits against those schmucks, I guess...Bucklion;1711470; said:I just meant how do you come up short on the single...
Triple-A Columbus right-handed reliever Frank Herrmann got the news this afternoon from manager Mike Sarbaugh that he has been called up to Cleveland. He will board a flight from Columbus to Chicago and join the team in the windy city tomorrow and be in uniform for the game tomorrow (Friday) night when the Indians take on the Chicago White Sox.
Herrmann, who just turned 26-years old last weekend, will be making his Major League debut. His call up to Cleveland is well deserved as in 19 appearances for Columbus he was 3-0 with a 0.31 ERA and in 28.2 innings allowed just 15 hits, 8 walks, and had 22 strikeouts. Opposing batters were hitting just .156 against him, and he leaves Columbus in the midst of a 27.2 inning consecutive shutout streak.
Herrmann has seen his fastball velocity increase this year as he has consistently been at 93-96 MPH, and his slider and the splitter he picked up last year have been much improved. There is no word whose spot on the 25-man roster he will be taking, but considering he was not on the 40-man roster and needs to be added a player will have to be removed from the 40-man roster. The likely candidates would be Jamey Wright, Shelley Duncan, Andy Marte, Rafael Perez, Shane Lindsay and even Hector Ambriz.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore (FSY) will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his left knee.
Sizemore underwent a 90-minute operation on Friday in Vail, Colo. The team says the procedure performed by Dr. Richard Steadman included microfracture, which involves the drilling of small holes into the kneecap to stimulate the growth of cartilage.
The Indians said Sizemore, a three-time All-Star, will need six to nine months to recover. He is expected to participate in exhibition games next March when the Indians open training camp in Goodyear, Ariz.
The loss of Sizemore is another major blow to the Indians, who are in last place in the AL Central and struggling to sell tickets.
His tranformation into later-year Ken Griffey, Jr. continues...at an alarmingly young age. I'm pretty much convinced he'll never be more than a shell of his former self. Damn shame, had so much potential. In the short term, this means next to nothing, as that's what Sizemore has been contributing the last 15 months. Long term, it fucking sucks because Grady onced looked like a cornerstone player in CF. Now, he looks like a 35 year old shell (in a 27 year old body) of a once very good player. The curse of Rocky Colavito continues unabated...105 losses, here we come.buckeyemania11;1711843; said:not that it wasnt expected, but official now
