Indians Tidbits (2008 season)

1. replace cabrera with who? josh barfield is hitting in the .240's in AAA and is far worse defensively.
At this point, I'd say a Barfield/Carroll platoon. Barfield isn't as good defensively, agreed, but you cannot keep a young guy hitting .177 on the roster...not only is it a problem in the lineup, it has to be taking a toll on his confidence. Maybe a Barfield/Carroll duo wouldn't be much better, but at least you're giving Cabrera a chance to regroup. He's being destroyed right now IMO.

Hell, none of it probably matters unless we get somebody that can work with these guys. There are so many leaks, plugging one might not do shit.

2. when Shoo comes off the DL Marte will likely be given Das Boot.
Let's hope so. Choo has looked decent when given a chance at the ML level and Marte is a total waste.

If they let Cabrera stay up the whole season it may ruin his confidence at the plate forever, unless he miraculously pulls it all together

you cant be sure of this though, they have shown their willingness to hang on to Marte :2004: so it would not be shocking if they continue to hang on to him even after Choo is healthy

1. how exactly can they ruin him? he's hitting .190. Barfield is just as bad offensively and worse defensively. demoting cabrera does nothing to help him.

2. i think they still have to clear a spot on the 25 man roster for choo regardless. someone will have to be moved.

 they get a hit then promptly ground into a double play
I stand by my silly string, seltzer water, 'Benny Hill' music suggestion from yesterday.

Also, after each loss, Randy Newman's 'Burn On' (The song from 'Major League') should be played over and over in the locker room.

this is pretty ridiculous.....

Finally, 2 nights in a row we get some hitting, and the pitchers let the game get from them.

We have to take advantage every time we can scrape 2 guys across the plate.

Just a wasted night when the bats got warm.

Eh, I don't know that 2 runs on 5 hits constitutes hitting, but I guess it's all relative at this point.

Just another pathetic performance all around. Save the starting pitching most nights, this team is an absolute mess. With most other rotations across the league, this team would be well on their way to a 100 loss season.

I'm not sure when the last time we got back-to-back multi run games. They really brought the sticks tonight. 5 hits.....that's like a hit every other inning. Solid. I'm not sure how much more you want. Damn this is a demanding fanbase.

Our team batting average might be the lowest in the majors, but Wedge says we'll start hitting. So it must be true.

I have a solution for bullpen help...

A guy I went to high school with is the closer for AA Akron. Randy Newsome was the player to be named later in the Coco Crisp trade (that's gotta be a cool story to tell.) He's 1-0 with 13 saves and a 0.95 ERA. Last year his combined A and AA stats were 4-2 with 18 saves and a 2.80 ERA. I don't remember him being that great in high school, he must have really developed in college.

I'm only half-joking about that.

Right now the offense is more than 1 or 2 moves away from being legit. They can't use the early in the season excuse, but there's still plenty of games to be played, and things can be turned around. They need to start moving now (not including the recent and solid additions of Fransisco and Aubrey.)
