Indians Tidbits (2008 season)

From the main PD article.

The Indians had a chance to add to their lead in the sixth, but misfired. After Ryan Garko singled, Dellucci doubled to the gap in right center. Not only was it Dellucci's first hit of the season, but it was the first hit by an Indians left fielder. The momentum continued as Blake drew a bases-loaded walk, but Carroll lined out to right on the first pitch.

One hit by the left fielder in how many games?

Ben Francisco anyone?

I mean, its inevitable... and I understand you only want to worry about X number of young players at a time... but... 1 freaking hit?

They will play Dellucci until August if not later unless he gets injured because he is making too much money that has another year left on his contract. Shapiro will never eat that contract. He is too proud to do that.

I've got to be honest...the managing in this game was terrible, IMO.
I have never liked Wedge as a manager but he is Shapiro's boy and we are stuck with him. He and Skinner should have been canned last year. Skinner doesn't know the speed of the players he sends around 3rd-base and Wedge does not know how to manufacture runs. He also falls in love with guys and stays with them no matter their batting average or how slow their "fastball" might be.

They're lucky Vlad didn't pull one down the line and kill Casey Blake.

Maybe they should put Dellucci at third and pull the infield in again this afternoon. Give Vlad another chance to kill someone.

Also, have any Indians been arrested lately? :sneaky:

Maybe just before the next home game they should have a death match between Michaels and Dellucci. The winner gets to back up Fransisco and the loser gets burried under left field. I have to think the only reason Ben is at AAA is because they don't want to cut either of the other two even if the team would be better off with Ben in LF.

the tigers are having a epic failure right now, and the Indians are failing to take advantage of it

right now I wouldint be suprised if the White Sox (or even the Royals) won the Division

A little early for those kind of proclimations. Things tend to shake out the way they should be by May-June. We need help at the corner OF spots though, that's one thing that is sure. Jason Michaels is a joke. At least Dellucci showed some signs of life today. Hopefully Francisco is up soon and can help out.

One thing definitely not helping Francisco get called up to get PT over Michaels and Delucci: he's hitting .174 in AAA.

Michaels and Delucci aren't our only offensive problems though... Cabrera , Hafner, Blake (.185) and Guitierrez (.154) are all hitting below .240. Blake also has 3 errors in 8 games at 3B - not good. We need those guys to step it up too, and I think they will.

The good news though is that its early, and our best competition (at least from before the start of the season) just got their first win tonight. Carmona, Westbrook, and Lee have been aces so far, C.C. will come around.

My biggest worry other than the corner outfielders is Borowski. I was in this guy's camp last year, but I don't know if I can take another year of him blowing games in dramatic fashion. I just don't see him racking up as many saves as he did last year.

Indians sign young star Carmona to multiyear extension

ESPN.com news services

Updated: April 10, 2008, 10:55 AM ET

The Indians have signed right-hander Fausto Carmona to a multiyear contract extension, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney is reporting.

The deal is guaranteed through 2011 with club options for 2012, 2013 and 2014. No monetary terms have been disclosed yet. The team will formally announce the extension at a 3 p.m. ET news conference. The 24-year-old Carmona had a breakout year in 2007, winning 19 games for the AL Central champion Indians.

This season, the hard-throwing right-hander is 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA in two starts.

If Joe Blow does not rack up the saves this year, the Indians will be in big trouble because those potential saves will turn into losses because Wedge and Shapiro will not change closers during this season unless Joe would suffer an injury. Our Asian import does not look very good right now either.

Gotta love the sound of early panic.

Jo Bo was like this in April last year too. I'll give him another 2-3 weeks to straighten things out. As long as his save percentage is high he will remain.

Yes, pissed about the Blake/Mitchell/Delluci combo. Just imagine if we just had average players playing in these "power" positions. But at last we knew what they were to start the year. There was an actual rumor I heard last night on radio about the possibility of Blake going back to the outfield to either let Marte play to find out what he will give us, or to try Peralta over there to move Cabrera to SS and bring Barfield up to play 2B.

Ah yes... this is going to be a fun filled season full of going through the Pepto bottles and going back on heart medicine just to handle the roller coaster.

Indian Fever... Catch it!
