Indiana 33, TSUN 36 (final)

Beg pardon, but he certainly had a hand in scUM being down to IU. Remember the fluttering pass the IU lineman intercepted??

Indiana didn't score 33 points off that interception. Forcier bailed out the Michigan defense who gave up almost 200 yards rushing.

Where did I say he did? You're changing your argument.

Tater Tot's mistakes CONTRIBUTED to Indiana have a short field.

I'm not changing my argument. I said Forcier isn't the reason they were behind. The reason they were behind is their defense has been crap for several years now.

RR hasn't figured out how to play defense yet. He is from the Big East after all. I'm excited to see Tater Tot face a team that actually plays defense.

Yeah, because Michigan's defense was really AWESOME before Rodriguez showed up, right?

Michigan's defense has been pretty shitty, especially their secondary and LB corps for at least 6 years running now. In terms of the secondary, we haven't had good safety play in ages, we always seem to have 1 good corner and then a bunch of crap, and at LB'er David Harris was the best thing we've had at LB'er, everybody else has been wildly inconsistent or mediocre.

Even that supposed "great" 2006 D with the "maestro" Ron English was a sieve as they didn't really play anybody with an offensive pulse until their last two outings and they gave up HUGE amounts of points and yardage in their last 2 games of the season.

Our offensive line was clearly missing Dave Molk, our freshman QB's played like freshman for most of the game and it showed, and like everybody has already commented our defense is awful.

One thing about the defense, I did think that JT Floyd at CB was an improvement over Cissoko after Cissoko got benched by Robinson. I think Cissoko has just ben officially demoted for the rest of the season.

Yes, because that's the only alternative to how they're playing now. The 05 defense was solid, the 04 unit wasn't bad, the 06 unit was pretty good for most of the year. The 07 defense wasn't very effective.

They weren't getting gashed on the ground by Eastern Michigan & Indiana.

Getting worked by PSU is one thing. Even good defenses can look bad against strong units. Getting dominated by a RB at QB for Purdue is another.

LB play was a LOT better than this unit. They weren't excellent, but Crable was a lot better #2 LB than Mr. Ezeh.

It's going to be interesting to watch Tate progress. Can you teach him not to take huge gambles like that with the football, whether carrying it like a loaf of bread (something pryor paid for today also) or attempting multiple throws while being sacked?

Did he have a better second half (I was driving to the shoe)? Because his first half was not very good.

Cullen Christian has become an incredibly important recruit. He's been a "heavy michigan lean" for awhile, but something has been holding up the process. Will these outings come across as an opportunity or a red flag to him?

The '05 defense was solid? Yeah, if solid = mediocre.

Michigan hasn't had a good defense since '03.

The last really good defense we had was in '03, and for some reason the recruiting/development of defensive players has just not been there from '04-present. It got bad in '04 and '05, which is why Jim Hermann was replaced, and in '06 the defense was statistically really good for 11 games because they didn't really play anybody with an offensive pulse, but it showed signs of weakness (Ball State) and in the last 2 games of that season they were slaughtered and gave up like 80 points and 800+ yards.

In '07 the defense was pathetic.

JT Floyd didn't really play in the 1st half. Cissoko did. Cissoko got benched in the 3rd QTR in favor of Floyd, and Floyd held up much better than Cissoko. I think Floyd starts next week over Cissoko and if he plays even moderately well in that game he probably keeps the job all year. Cissoko's days as a starter definitely look numbered.

Cullen Christian is a very important recruit. For some reason he seems to think we have depth at CB. Sounds like somebody has been feeding him some garbage with regards to Michigan and CB's, because we really have next to no depth right now.

Points given up:
L - 17, 23, 23, 25
W - 17, 0, 31, 25, 20, 17, 14, 14

Then the bowl meltdown when they were too good for the alamo, 32-28.

Yes, I'd say it was solid...

And nowhere near as hideous as the 45, 46, 48 or 42 point atrocities the 08 defense turned in. The two 35 pt outings in rivalry game losses don't even make that list, and they were worse than any of the lost games in 05.
JT Floyd didn't really play in the 1st half. Cissoko did.
I'm pretty sure that was floyd on Doss, when he burned him for a run after the catch down to the 3, after which IU continued their quest to not come away with points in short yardage situations. Like I said, I didn't see the 2nd half yet, probably on monday.
Cissoko's days as a starter definitely look numbered.
Does that mean less strutting?
