Illinois Fighting Illini (you'll see)

Well he didn't, so they can't ... and they won't here on BP any longer.

Memo to Illini fan: When it comes to recruiting, we don't engage in idle speculation and blatant homerism on this site. We told you - repeatedly - that Fellows would de-commmit from Illinois. We told you - repeatedly - that he would verbal to Ohio State. We told you - repeatedly - that he would make the move before the summer. We told you - repeatedly - that it was a "done deal". You responded - repeatedly - that we were arrogant, uninformed, and just plain full of shit. Well, we hate to tell you so ... but we told you so.

We don't expect you to apologize for being rude and condescending and overconfident and inaccurate on our site, because, after all, you are Illini fans. But maybe, in the future, you could possibly consider, for a second or two, that we might actually know what we are talking about when it comes to Ohio State recruits.

On behalf of the rest of the arrogant, uninformed, full-of-shit BPRT, I shall remain,

Very truly yours,

Lord Jeff Buck

Fuckin' elitist.

Lopo.....
I read some of the stuff you and others on the Illini Scout board say about Ohio State's academics. You folks need to crawl out of that hick town of Champaign. In case you folks didn't know, Ohio State's long reputation-draining policy of open admissions (but not open graduation as you and Michigan folks have always incorrectly implied) ended about 10 years ago. Ohio State's average freshman ACT score is right about even with the average Illinois student's score.....in fact, OSU's may have surpassed Illinois' in the past couple of years.

Then some of your dimwitted Illini failed to mention Ohio State's Business School. It has ALWAYS been better than Illinois' business school and has widened the gap substantially the past 20 years. OSU's Fisher College of Business is a Top 10 MBA program in the nation.

Furthermore, Ohio State has several programs that are ranked far ahead of any like programs at Illinois.

Illinois still enjoys a lead over OSU in prestigious academic reputation, but those reputations take years and years to change...like decades. But the way you Illini talk it's by a wide margin. Overall, Illinois is 4th or 5th in the BigTen in this category. Ohio State is 5th or 6th depending on how you measure it. Given another dozen years or so, OSU will probably climb over Penn State and Illinois to reach the #4 or #3 spot, challenging the Top 3 (Northwestern, Michigan, and Wisconsin).

Lastly......Jeff Cumberland couldn't get into Ohio State but miraculously he was welcomed with open arms by Illinois. That's a fact that your Illini bretheren never mention and causes them to get riled up......

I'm not Lopo, and I know not of the quarrel that the two of you have had over academics, but I can't let a post like this go by without a response. This is wandering off topic for this thread, so I'll be brief.

Nope:

tOSU ACT scores over 30: 17%

Illinois ACT scores over 24: 87%
Illinois ACT scores over 30: 33%

Nope. Before spouting stuff like this, you might want to check, oh, I don't know, the official Ohio State website?

"Fisher College of Business: ranked 27th overall among 425 institutions with MBA programs."

The latest US News and World Report academically ranks the Big Ten like this:

1. Northwestern
2. Michigan
3. (tie) Illinois
3. (tie) Wisconsin
5. Penn State
6. tOSU
7. Purdue
8. Iowa
9. Minnesota
10. Michigan State
11. Indiana

Look, this is like an argument trying to decide if Jessica Beil or Jessica Alba is hotter. Both are fine institutions. Both are better than 95% of what is out there.

But if you're going to bring up this issue, don't like, you know, make stuff up.

Recent events, (Mario Manningham - Wonderlic 6 points), and simple common sense, (Jeff Cumberland) should tell all that there is little to no correlation between the rigor of an institution's student body academic excellence and the academic expectations placed upon student athletes as they seek to enter that institution.

How is that simple point so hard for some people to grasp?

Fact: A high percentage of D-1 football players would not be admitted into their current school if they were a "normal" student.

Thanks, Roughy. You pretty much confirmed everything I posted about. OSU has to come from behind to catch Illinois in rankings....I said that.

Your Illinois bretheren talk about Ohio State like it's a garbage school....that is clear from reading their posts.

by the way....Illinois is not on the radar screen of top MBA programs....Ohio State is a top 10 program and has been for about 18 years.

I am not even an OSU alum and I am also a little sick of the disparaging remarks I've seen (especially from our Illini friends on other boards recently). I just edited our most recent recruiting pamphlet for rugby and here is what I can tell you:

FACT: 80% of freshman accepted to OSU were in the top quarter of their high school graduating class.

FACT: The average ACT score for incoming freshman is 26 ...five points above the national average.

FACT: The average GPA for incoming fresman is 3.30.

FACT: US News and World Reports rated OSU the 19th best public university in the country in 2008 and 57th overall. Not exactly a world of difference between that and Illinois' public ranking of 10th and overall ranking of 38th.

OrangeRoughy said it best...it's like trying to compare the Jessicas (Biel, Alba and Simpson). Both are fine academic institutions with certain areas in which they excel.

Academics, schmatics

Refer everyone to the post, 'Academically Speaking' that was written to back up the B10's academic bragging rights over the SEC's. Correct, Illinois is ranked higher than OSU.

As an MBA from OSU, gotta tell you that OSU is a second tier school, not a top 10 one. (on OSU's best day, they don't crack the top 15). The new facilities will edge them up, but better faculty, and graduates that head up Fortune500 firms or make lots of money get them closer to teh top. (PS, I look annually to see if OSU MBA's are more respected....). But you gotta understand, that second tier is very much OK. Kinda like a mole on the left thigh of a 'Jessica', you wouldn't kick her out of bed for that , would you?

Anyway, as a warning, spouting stuff without facts to back it up is a not-so-clever way of committing suicide on this board, there's plenty of folk out there that either are living it, or know much about it, so don't BS it!

:gobucks3::gobucks4::banger:Every program/college has it warts (even OSU - gasp), so it's better to acknowledge them rather than ignoring them.

Calibuck...you may want to check the ratings again.

Ohio State ranked right about #10 of part time MBA programs in the nation. These represent the programs where most working professionals go for their education.
