Ah, Tom Lemming. Knower of all things recruiting. Bastion of journalistic integrity. Driver of 30,000 miles. Unabashed Notre Dame shill.
There are two constants to any follower of Illinois recruiting: Taylor Bell (retired Chicago Sun Times prep hoops writer) will always write something negative about Illinois hoops. And Tom Lemming will take every. single. shot he possibly can at Illinois football. To wit:
A high school football player is committed to one program but taking visits to others? Well slap me in the face and call me Sparky. Unbelievable.
Fantastic journalism vis a vis the whole "at least" part there, Tommy. Given that the most offers that Illini recruitniks have been able to verify is 53, I highly doubt that 150 official offers have been issued. Is Zook offering over his head this recruiting season? You bet. He's pinning his hopes on the tOSU upset and the Rose Bowl opening a few doors that have been closed for 25 years. But leave it to Lemming to take a legit story (Illinois is offering a ton of players) and inflating the number in an attempt to make it look worse. I understand, Tom - you just can't help yourself.
Tom Lemming took a shot at a high school kid after he committed to Illinois? Get the hell out of here. I mean, it's not like he did this with Martez Wilson. And Arrelious Benn. And Juice Williams (Demetrius Jones is twice the QB that Juice Williams is, dontchaknow). And Kurt Kittner, Fred Wakefield, Antioneo Harris, and dozens of other Illini commits over the years.
And I'm saying this as someone who believes that Fellows will eventually be a Buckeye (with Ohio State's recruiting momentum, back to back BCS Championship appearances, and in-state ties, why would he NOT eventually pick the home team?). It's just funny to play the "find the Lemming bias" game every year. The best part of this last recruiting season was the case of RB Jason Ford. An Iowa commit, Lemming put him in his national top-100 and raved about his potential. Then he switched to the home team (see, it happens all the time), and Lemming was stuck giving rave reviews to an Illini recruit. It was through gritted teeth that he shared his "Ford is a beast" opinion back in February.
That's all for now. I'm off to find the wav file of that radio show in Florida where Lemming got embarrassed on the air by that FSU recruit...

The bad news is one of coach Ron Zook's first commitments doesn't appear to be as committed as he hoped he would be.

Illinois is leading the nation in offers, at least 150

But I have talked to high school coaches in Cleveland who don't believe he is the best player in Ohio.
