Illinois Fighting Illini (you'll see)

At halftime yesterday. They also had a card show to go along with the band's Veterans' Day tribute -- nowhere close to being able to do their part of the show. Sad......or hilarious. Whatever.

This really makes me feel pretty crappy. Fans, you got to stick around at least through the half, not all be gone one minute into the 2nd quarter. So much for the major brands of the big ten.

Oh, they didn't leave early. They never even showed up. That's what those stands looked like the entire game.

I was at the game. Illinois scored a TD the players were "shushing" the crowd and making hand motions to "simmer down". I guess they didn't realize they were at home and when they score they are supposed to pump up the crowd.

Just no way they can let that continue. Gotta be another coaching change there as soon as the season ends.
This is Beckman's second year, is that really the answer to fire him and bring someone else in to start over again? I am not saying Beckman is the answer, but if you continue to change out coaches every 2-3 years, who is going to want to come there to play?

And to think some tOSU fans wanted Beckman as our Coach....

I'm fairly close with a recent grad who played under Zook and Beckman. While he had good things to say about Beckman, he's left me with the impression that with what Urb is doing, nobody in the B1G really believes they will consistently compete with tOSU. Switching coaches every two or three years trying to answer that will be the death nail of the B1G.

Not that IL is trying to solve the problem of 'How to win against tOSU.' They are just trying to figure out how to win games they should win.

I'm not sure what coach would want to come to Illinois knowing that they only gave the guy before you 2 years to prove himself. Beckman was successful at Toledo, which makes me think he'll turn it around if he has enough time. Same with Hazell at Purdue.

Oh, it never gets old. The reading from approximately pages 30-40 in this thread is phenomenal.

So many good posts to summon from the cripts, this one actually from one of the more reasonable Illini posters back then...

Since 1990, Illinois has had one 10-win season (2001), one 9-win season (2007), and two 8-win seasons (1990 and 1997). Four seasons out of 18 with more than seven wins. Illinois tends to have a great year every decade or so (10-2 in 1983, 10-2, in 1989, and 10-2 in 2001). They peak up to that great season and then immediately go back down. Had you beat USC in the Rose Bowl, you would've had your once a decade or so great season at 10-3. Despite all the nice talent you have now and have coming in, I just don't see history changing. Maybe Zook can earn "great years" a little more often than once a decade, but to think that Illinois will rise to a consistently elite level in the Big Ten is just laughable.

*right click, save* Oh wait - you guys hang on to your posts over here. Good. I'm glad this one will be around in 6 years.

Please do save it, so when Illinois is 4-7 in 2012 we all can have a good laugh. My point was that while Illinois has some good years, they have never been consistent.
