If you had to change the outcome of one game in Ohio State history, which would it be?

Let's be real if your answer isn't the title game vs Florida, guaranteeing that team as one of the best of all time, then I just don't know what to tell you other then to seek help.

"There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you". However bad that game was, I think the program needed it to show how far away it was from the next transformation of the game. 96 Michigan and 98 MSU are games that they should have won and would have given the program two more national championships.

Also if we want to play the butterfly effect game, if we beat MSU in 98 that would give Saban a losing record that year. Does he go 9-2 the next year securing a job with LSU? Could OSU have prevented the beast that is today's Alabama? Yea, probably not. But who knows?

if we're giving a mulligan to any team between 95-06, I'm not giving it to John Cooper

Yea this is the conundrum for me. My first thought was any of those mid 90s teams from Cooper... but then can he win the follow up? I have no confidence he would.
Goes back to Troy's last game for me.

Events could break dfiferently, but Saban would still be Saban somewhere imo.

The 2003 edition of The Game is another candidate. Would have had a chance to repeat, and if we're giving a mulligan to any team between 95-06, I'm not giving it to John Cooper. Seen that movie before.
Plus there's the possibility that a NC keeps Cooper here longer and means no Tressel at OSU... all my college years were with Cooper but I just can't pull that trigger.

Winning it all in 69 or 79 probably gets my vote.

So having a coach that has won a NC is a bad thing? Would things have gone differently with the program if Coop won a NC in 96 or 98? Even though I would like to defend a NC winning John Cooper, he still did not have a QB in 99. I don't think winning a NC would have changed the fact he had to use a DB as a QB in 99 and 2000. Could he have brought in a QB in recruiting classes prior to 99 if he won a NC in 96?

We know what Cooper was: my concern is that Cooper winning it all, as great as that is in the moment, gives him a longer leash and ultimately prolongs the agony and then leads to OSU not hiring a Tressel as his successor, and who knows where we end up without JT taking over in 2001? Point is I would not now trade the 2000s as we have had them for a Cooper NC.

lol. must have been thinking MSU 1998? Tough to pick one but that is right up there at 1, 2 or 3. 96 UM Springs slip gets my vote.
Actually, I think he may have combined 96 and 98. Ohio State didn't play Arizona State in it's 1998 Bowl - that was Ohio State v. Texas A&M in the 1999 Sugar, while Ohio State v. Arizona State was the 1997 Rose.

The Cooper years were a long dark period that seems less like reality and more like a Dali painting of a scene from a Fellini movie where everyone in the audience took the brown acid.

I can understand the confusion.
