That's the argument I'm going against. Maybe a history buff can change my mind. But when has a returning undefeated champion ever been left out of title game in the following year where they were once again undefeated?
I think LSU would be out. If they make a terrible choice and move LSU ahead of us in the final rankings, then I guess I think we would be out, but I think we did enough to hold the top spot. (I'm 100% convinced Clemson comes in 3rd on the playoff rankings just for the record, but that is just to make sure they aren't rewarded completely for their schedule).

Clemson easily gets left out. Damn near played a MAC schedule all year.

Schedule was easily the worst
I just don't think the old system keeps out a team on a 28 game win streak who is the defending champion.

I've seen various simulated BCS projections throughout the year using the AP Poll in lieu of the extinct Harris Interactive.
4 of the 6 computer polls used in the old BCS have been updated to reflect the CCGs. tOSU is #1 in 3 of the 4 and #2 in the other; LSU is #1 in 1, #2 in 2, and #3 in 1; Clemson is #1 in 1 and #3 in the other 3.

Fair. I just think the polls have flipped, jumped, and dropped teams in ways they never had before the CFP "allowed" them more freedom since their votes don't actually matter any longer. When they knew their votes picked the champ, they would have kept Clemson at 1 and LSU would have jumped Ohio State after beating Texas and never dropped because they didn't lose imo

Trying to remember how the BCS worked. Without the finest of specifics, it has to be Clemson. BCS took the actual polls in to account and then some computerized BS related to SOS and maybe other stuff, not sure anymore. Polls and SOS have favored OSU and LSU over Clemson All. Year. Long.

They took a team's total points in the Coaches' Poll and Harris Interactive (not around anymore) and divided them by the max possible points. These polls counted for one third of the ranking each, totaling two thirds.
The last third came from an average of six computer polls. Not sure how they normalized them to a 0-1 scale.

Doesn't some site somewhere run a BCS simulation on who the two teams would have been? I'm pretty sure that it would be Clemson because being ranked lower in both polls carried a lot of weight regardless of what year's formula was being used. Thank God that we don't have to listen to The Apostle Dabo lobbying to have Clemson jump us in the polls.

My only reservation is, if we lived in a BCS world still, and voters were aware of that fact, Clemson would start the season #1 in the polls and stay there until they lost. OSU and LSU would be battling for #2 because the voters wouldn’t want to leave the undefeated champ out. I’m not sure the computer portion would be enough for one/both to overtake Clemson for one of the spots. It’s a moot point and I think the CFP leads to slightly more honest votes, hence, Clemson sitting at #3.
