Idea to Redout Penn State

we are doing SOMETHING for the Michigan game. We just don't know what yet. People seem to be in favor of trying a gray out. But i like the idea of another scarlet sea... only better. :)

btw... you may have seen me on 10 TV news in columbus, i did an interview for the Sea of Scarlet thing.

Same thing but with some volume would be great. Rain definitely had to chill the atmosphere in there a bit, but the parallel to PSU's white-out was really just in terms of the visual dominance of a uniform color. They were insane in Happy Valley last year, as hostile and wild a crowd I've seen in a long time, and there's no question it contributed to the game. The Shoe was shaking a few times during our game today, but largely still and quiet as it too-often seems to be. Not sure what a good solution might be that would also conform to Holbrook and fan desire to see themselves less represented on the national-level news by riotous acts of vandalism. So I guess "free beer night" is out.

Anyway, great job with this, the stadium looked fantastic, and if the whole process really did originate with you, ah, mad ups yo.

Being in the stadium, I'm not sure why you say "still and quiet as it too often seems to be".

The crowd was rocking when it should be. When our defense is on the field.

It seems almost as if the university's goal is to not upset the visiting fans. At the most crucial parts of big games, they play some sappy horseshit video clip on the jumbotron, sucking the life from the stadium. I'm surprised they haven't resorted to playing commercials showing bloated dying children in third world countries begging for money to quiet our own crowd.

I had a fan of "Da U" with me yesterday and he never heard a crowd so loud in his life.

As for the sea of scarlet, the stadium was undoubtedly more red than normal. And it looked great. As for the noise level, I'd call it "satisfactory".

As for me, typing is the only way I can communicate today as my voice is shot.

Gonna have to disagree with ya Clarity, I was at the game and I was extremely impressed by that crowd! I thought it was just a step below the Texas game last year. The south stands and student section were simply amazing and the thing I was most impressed with was the fact that the old folks seemed to get off their asses (no offense intended here to anyone, but they are usually very unenthusiastic during the games) throughout the entire game. There were still some sitting, (which is why this game can't really compare to Texas' crowd), but from what I saw about 90-95% (if you like arbitrary numbers) of the time everyone seemed to be standing and screaming their heads off. Not to mention the fact when PSU was on the goaline in the 3rd quarter (I believe, possibly 4th), going to go for it on 4th and 1, and then I truly believe this, that the false start was definitley caused by the crowd. We came extremely pumped up and loud for this game and I think it showed! As much as they got in our heads last year, we definitley got right back into their heads this year!

Also, compare this to the lowly NIU game where I was yelled at a few times by some old timers to sit down, I felt this crowd was pretty insane! But still, I've never been to any game before where the crowd was as crazy and as insane as it was vs. Texas last year. That was a blast and just flat out proved why we have the best fans in the land!

The same people who organized this one are talking about doing something for the Michigan game (maybe red again, talking about doing gray).

I have a feeling that if they do the "sea of scarlet" or what ever again people will say "we already did that" and I dont think the "grey out" or what ever they want to call it would go over well because people couldn't wear their jersies.

I have a feeling that not many people are going to go along with this again, but what do you all think?

sweet!!!

Thanks guys!!! noone here at osu believes me when i tell them that i started it. "no way.... really?"

haha. but i have a 10 tv interview on tape to prove it!

We'll see about the michigan game... it's possible we sell some sort of light overcoat or overlay to go over jackets for the game to unify color. the biggest deterant this time was in the 2nd quarter when it rained really hard and people had YELLOW ponchos!!!! >:-(

SoS, most of the crowd normally wears scarlet... so your efforts were helpful in getting rid of a lot of the white speckles. I thought it looked a lot more vibrant out there, congrats.

A grayout would be fighting against a lot of non-participants still wearing scarlet.

Keep the Seas of Scarlet for the scUM game. Hopefully it won't rain and cause the blotches of yellow, but there will probably be more scUM fans than PSU fans at the game. I really don't like the idea of the gray-out because then people won't be able to wear jerseys to the game. Keep the Sea of Scarlet idea, if you're thinking of something for the 18th.
