Using your verbiage, I'd say one and two are "no", and three is subject to interpretation. Motive can fairly be said to be subject to interpretation, and JT's true intent will never be known for certain...assuming it was not comprised of several intermingled intentions, some laudatory and some perhaps more selfish.SmoovP;1929496; said:Is that even a question at this point?

gold pants/rings-as noted the tradition of awarding such "awards" to the players has been officially ruined. it is done, what schmidt did his saying, and the gold pants in 1934 has come to an end/or has significantly changed. as to selling, it is against the rules, the players knew it or should have known. end of story. that being said i have talked to numerous former players who exemplify the spectrum on the gold pants, some deeply cherish them as a prized possession, others use them as a business tool in their offices, while some gave them to important people in their lives mom/dad/wife/kids, etc, while some are neutral storing them in shoe boxes and some do not care at all having sold them, loaned them to another entity etc. at the end of the day the pants were the players to do as they liked, once the graduated. sad day in buckeye traditions.
real buckeys vs fake ass buckeyes- both were captains, ones father was a captain, one is the most public college football figure in the country, the other one has entered a lore of cam newton, the 49 uk bball team, smu, etc as legends, not nearly in the good way. one has been critical of the university and some players, the other orchestrated leading his coach to the slaughter house, then allowing the coach to finish the deed himself.
JT-it was an interesting ten years, the highlight will always be the fall of 2002 that magical team, who seemed to rise out of now where, as it turned out the defense was stacked and amongst the greatest college football had ever seen. at the end of the era his three best players all walk away with major violations, ones career cut short, one who seemed to resurrect himself, and one yet to be determined. when you hold yourself out in such a manner often times the realities are not fair. in this case it wasnt the salesmen down the street who was caught, it was the pastor. not good. when you write books, and seem to do all in your capability to make yourself the perfect stiff in the sweatervest, the reality is often harsh. no one is perfect. but it takes thousands of actions to create a reputation and trust, and merely one to destroy it.
the firing-the decision was the most painful event in ohio in 2010. in 2011 it will likely be the firing. at the end of the day tressel either 1-lied or 2-withheld. in either situation his affirmative action and omission cost him his job. to me it was the right move. had nearly anyone of us put our employers in that situation we would have lost our jobs, the same goes for the highest paid state employee in ohio. (granted in know he is paid outside of funds provided by the state, but the reality rings true). the coach had multiple opportunities that he could have and should have come clean, he did not. in the end he likely could have ridden out all the allegations so far if he had reported them, or admitted his knowledge up until the bowl game one would think... in other words the man feel on the table knife and the wound is merely self inflicted.
general college football thoughts-as a college football fan this is a great day, for one reason-the reality that one the games most prominent figures lost his job over some tatts and maybe some cars. hopefully this goes towards fostering an environment in which plausible deny-ability is not the goal of each and every institution...
where from here-ive said many times these changes typically occur quickly, be it cooper one lose away from playing for the national title in 1998 to canned less than two years later, or any other situation. the reality is that one coach (football or basketball) has left this institution on their own terms since i have been a fan (gary williams to go to his alma maryland). the graveyard of coaches lives on...
the future-it is hard to say what may be over the horizon, scholarship reductions, post seasons bans, losses, and what not. i do know that the this team versus the world mentality will be in full force, and that they will be coached by a group of guys fighting for their own jobs, who essentially have been given a one year trial membership before solicitation of the big dogs occurs. as they say in major league

the end-it is a sad yet glorious time at the ohio state university. the end of an era, the looming investigation and the penalties that we all know are coming, but at the end of the day one thing has been solidified. no man, woman, coach, professor, student, quarterback, alum, fan or anyone else is greater than the institution, be it jim tressel, roger blackwell, or likely terrelle pryor.
where does that leave us?

Florida burned him out...try tOSU and The Game and having to prove himself again and again that he is not burned out, and that he really meant it when he said he had to stop coaching at UF, but now all is better - let along win over the fans who remember Glendale and do not think fondly of him.
No chance, None. Zip. Nada. Gator nation would be very angry and resentful if he did.
