I am depressed...someone cheer me up

Eh i dunno its a lotta stuff. I just cant stay happy, this has gone on for a while, been through a lot of crap and its brought me down for a long period of time. I will go from happy to sad in minutes, without any influence from the outside. For example I met a girl, she's definitely special, I haven't felt the way I do about a woman since my ex...and when im on the phone or tlakin on AIM with her I get happier, but now when i talk to her i cant stay happy...i just don't what the hell is going on in my head. I get depressed for no reason really, but i can actually feel my mood changing. It is weird. I think i may be depressed (it runs in the family) or bi/polar. My mom and grand,ma and uncle were all manic depressive. I don't want to go to a doc about it because I dont want to have to get medicine to cure something thats a ridiculous as this. I dunno...

Honestly, I am at a point where I don't see a whole lot of positives. The girl I mentioned above is one...buyt like I said I cant even get happy then anymore. I used to be happy at the bars/clubs with my friends, but now that too doesn't make me happy. Also due to some issues in life a couple years ago (getting dumped by the woman i planned on proposing to, and not being allowed to continue my education due to being poor, then my mother and sister being evicted and my being essentially homeless) i haven't really been right since.

If you are serious about this, get to a fucking doctor! As a very wise mental health professional told me years ago: we all need help, in varying degrees. You may not need to be medicated, but talking to a professional will help.

Dude, seriously. Talk to a Doc. It doesn't sound like you are at a point where this absolutely HAS to be a really bad scenario. Everyone goes through some bad shit. A lot of how we react to it depends on timing. It is apparent that you are reaching out to your Buckeye bretheren for some encouragement. I know that you will find a lot of moral support here, as long as you make an attempt to explore some avenues, in addition to this one, regarding what it is that you are going through. Depression can be a serious and debilitating thing, and if left unchecked for a long enough period of time, can cause severe emotional trauma for you and everyone around you. That is why you MUST get yourself checked out. Not saying that is what it is, but its' worth it to find out. I am no expert, but I have had to contend with this sort of thing personally. There are answers.

Great post.

Coming out with it, even though in a subtle style, is a great first step. Just talking about it may help. But, going to a doc and going deep, and letting him help you out, will definatley do a great deal. So, I also support you as my fellow poster above, and encourage you to talk to a doctor about this.

Just remember that you still have people who love you in your life.

PS- that girl that makes you happy seems like a great gal. You should talk to her more if it brightens you.:)

there's nothing wrong with being depressed, or bi-polar. I've dealt with the former, and have multiple family members who were bi-polar. It seems ridiculous and pathetic, but its not your fault. My mom is as positive and upbeat as they come, but she would get absolutely floored for no reason.

The problem is today there are some doctors who prescribe meds for everything, and so depression seems overtreated and overstated. That seems to illegitimize the disorder in the public, but its a very real problem for people with bio-chemical imbalances.

Talking to a psychologist would be useful. He cannot prescribe medicine, and are often quite good at therapy. Medicine can be viewed as the quick fix, but counseling and understanding/treating your condition is just as important and can sometimes be all you need.

Even if you/your doctor decide that medicine is not right for you, it really helps to shed some light on your feelings. It can be very lonely, embarrassing, and hopeless to go thru these types of symptoms. For me, before any treatment began... it was so helpful to speak with someone who understood my symptoms, had experience treating them, and gave me hope for the future.

Ditto to the above.

Get your ass to a doctor. Stay away from medication if you can, as it can be habit forming (it was for all 3 of my siblings); but I can tell you from personal experience that just talking to someone about it can help. It is a cliche because it is true. Just do it.
