Humor and Comprehension vs. Iron Curtain Intolerance

BrutusMaximus said:
Alright, but again I bring up the point that: Why can they say it to each other, and it's not "racist" or "wrong"? If it has negative connotations, that means they insult each other constantly? Makes perfect sense to me.

I don't have the answers for this. Not sure anyone does. Lots of articles on the web though, about it.

Blacks saying it to blacks = ok ?
White saying it to whites = ok ( I guess ?)
White saying it to blacks = bad ?
Blacks saying it to whites = ok ?

Even within the black community however, you will find disagreement on it. I tend to think the younger generations feels it is ok, the older folks don't.

I'm sure much of that has to do with the era's each one grew up in.

How come nobody says they are "offended" when thump calls people homos? That is negative, right? How come I can call Loky a Honky, and he doesnt get "offended" Has nothing to do with what's said, it has to do with the person who hears it.

/Rant /Rant

I guess I look at it this way-

A) I know it is an offensive word to many people.
B) As a white person who grew up in the 70's, there's no way I can fully understand what the word means to black people. Because of that, even if it was acceptable, I don't deserve to use it.

I don't particularly care for the word...

However, the people who are so easily offended and cry "racism" over such statements (which are more often not used in hate) are doing a disservice to those who endured REAL racism.

While I understand racism still exists to a certain extent, it's become so overplayed that it's sickening. Those who were beaten, sprayed with fire hoses and killed would have walked accross broken glass for the world that we have today. The brave revolutionaries of the past would be ashamed of the whining, weak so-called "activists" of today.
