anybody who risks serious injury for the all-important state competition is stupid. Heck, finishing the race accomplished nothing...did she win? Somebody in this thread actually compared this to what some guy did in the Olympics. Yeah, that's the same.

I don't know why the stupid get praised in today's society.

Maybe, just maybe, this actually meant something to her and it was a matter of pride. Does it matter whether she won or not? No, she showed tremendous guts and effort to finish the race.

And I don't know why people such as yourself are so judgmental. She made her choice for herself at that moment. I don't doubt for a moment that you would even know what it feels like to work that hard during a long season and have something like that happen at the culmination.

I was cross country runner in high school and I fell just short of qualifying for State at Scioto Downs. I would like to hope that if I had made it, and was in her position, I would have done the same thing.

And I will give her praise. That's what heart looks like. She'll be running again in six months, and those months will suck. But for the rest of her life, she's going to get to look back on that moment with pride.

I was impressed how it was never a question in her mind that she wasn't going to finish. It was her senior year and the last time she was going to be doing the sport she loved.

Tibs, its called sacrafice for something that is important to her. She wanted to finish the job, achieve her goal. If the heros in Bastogne during WWII had the same attitude as you we would all be speaking German. No it's not the same magnatude, but it is the same attitude. Finish the job even if it hurts. It's called character.

Good on her.
