the rain gauge down the street from my house reported 1.6" in 45 minutes, we don't get a lot of rain here but when it rains, it rains

I'm was just in the Pacific NW. It's been 95-108 for the majority of my time here. Many of those temps were for locations at 4-6k feet above sea level.

I lived in Oregon from 1979-1983. Heat waves were rare but in the summer of 1981 we had like two weeks of day time temperatures over 100 degrees. They rare but they do happen on occasin.

Portland. Snuck in a mini vacation in SE Oregon (Crater, Paulina, various tiny hikes) before some work weeks just south of Portland. Also worked in Multnomah, Triple Falls and Mirror Lake. Snuck in a 12 mile hike to see about 6 separate seculded lakes, was not ready for that

Looks like you're getting a good sampling (and a 12 mile hike can mean a lot of different things here--take it you had some serious elevation gain). Hopefully you make it to the beach--besides being a whole lot cooler the OR coast is pretty unique. And yet another heat wave is coming.Portland.
