I hate storms. They don't bother me at all but they send my wife in to a tizzy. I fully expect to be woke up in the middle of the night because she will be in a panic over a tornado that never happens. Jesus. Tornado watch? You can find her in the basement with a supply of food for the next decade. Worst part is she induces panic in our 7 year old daughter when I am trying to convince her that everything is going to be fine (like it ALWAYS is.)
Daughter:"Mommy? Is there going to be a tornado?"
Me:"No. There never is. There never will be. I can assure you that."
Mommy:"You don't know that. There could be a tornado. This storm is supposed to be epic. It's supposed to be worse than the one we got last week."
Me:"You mean the last one that was the storm of the century that I slept through and brought some rain?"
Mommy:"This one is supposed to be bad."
Daughter:"Mommy, I'm scared."
Me:"See what you've done?"
Remnants of Hurricane Ike did $550m damage to Ohio in 2008. The June 29 derecho in 2012 lifted scaffolding in downtown CBus like balsa wood and dropped it on cars passing by on High St. I was in my car with my wife and kids on the way to COSI when it hit -- terrifying. It was literally raining power tools and lumber from the scaffolds where the Ohio Theater was being cleaned. When we got home that evening our 10' umbrella from the backyard patio was buried in the front yard like a lawn jart. It had completely cleared our home and flown 50 - 60' into the front yard where it was buried 18" nose down.
This storm and winds is projecting worse than those based on what's hitting Illinois and Indiana.
