Ugh, yeah. Not me. About 12 years ago, maybe more, a few years after my Grandfather died, my mother decided that we should ALWAYS have Thanksgiving at my Grandmothers, as she was having heart trouble and "it might be Grandma's last Thanksgiving" - This is reasonable at some level, obviously, but, its about a 5 hour round trip for me, which is a lot for one day... and I mean, this really isn't worth an overnight trip.
Of course, Grandma turned 90 last Saturday... and despite my mother's protests of her frailty, she (take it to the speed limit thread folks) she still drives herself to the grocery store, she still goes to her local pool for water "aerobics" every Tuesday and Thursday, she still looks after her chickens and mows the yard on her John Deere riding mower. She went through a little period where she needed a cane, but she and her doctorb did whatever and sorted that out. My mother tried to get her one of those little walker/roller/stroller things with a hand brake, and my mother was lucky she didn't get it shoved up her ass. My Aunt checks in on her, but, for the most part, I have this sneaking suspicion that this will NOT, in fact, be Grandma's last Thanksgiving.... again... ad infinitum.
Over the river and through the woods, I guess.
