How does work make you feel today?

update:
Sunday night was day 49 straight without a day off.
we worked 14 hours that night.
Monday night we worked 13, then had to take a two hour training course.

around noon on Tuesday (before i went to sleep), we were told we were no longer on this project. took a quick nap for a couple hours, then packed up and drove home.

was home for about 18 hours when i got the call to come back out to Tejas and we're back on the site.

between the drive and a 14 hour shift, was up for just over 30 hours.

now we are shut down due to this hurricane, but can't geaux home yet because they don't decide if we working or not until the last possible minute.

This doesn't just sound unhealthy for you, it sounds dangerous. People make mistakes when they are exhausted. Isn't there any other way for them to arrange your work schedule?

this is not anywhere near typical for us.

by sheer bad luck, i wasn't able to take my days off when they rolled around.

same with my travel.
company just looks at us as i was "off" from 9am Tuesday until 6pm on Thursday.

not relevant to them at all that 12 of those hours was traveling.
and then me trying to re-acclimate to a daytime schedule to spend time with my family is also not of their concern.

then we get out here Thursday night and had to spend a couple extra hours dealing with the politics of the job.

Had i known that, i would have drove up wednesday night and slept all day Thursday.

but it's all good now.
i've done nothing but sleep and eat since we knocked off around 8am Friday morning.
and as of now, looks like Monday would be the earliest we going back to work.

Glad to know they don't do it to you as a regular thing. It sounded especially bad given the crazy weather you had to deal with too.

as a general rule, we try not to let anyone go over 21 consecutive days worked without giving them 2 days off.

we swap them with people of equal/greater rank and experience.

well due to other jobs happening, they knew my rotation wasn't happening at 21 days so they offered be one at 16 knowing that it might be a while before it came around again.

i turned it down banking on at least a rainout before i completely ran out of gas.

the rain out didn't happen.

then my two days "off" was all jacked up thanks to the timing it all went down and me being on nights instead of days.

2-1/2 hour I.T. meeting today while I sat with the company president, my department head, and my senior DBA as we answered a 360 question questionnaire for a renewal test of our PCI/DSS compliance. Also played a lot of what-if games in light of Equifax breach.

That's 150 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

Man Equifax really spit the bit on almost every conceivable level.

I'm in a business that handles data as well. Our own and a lot of client data. Our most junior staff are better stewards of information than those clowns.

And yes, I was 'likely impacted.'

Have to put freezes on everything. Pain in the ass. Good thing I'm not in the market for any credit products right now.

Equifax should be paying for half the adults in the country to receive credit freezes. And they sure as shit should be far more proactive about providing instructions. Having worked in the credit industry previously I at least knew what to do. Fell bad for those who don't.

They had username: admin, password: admin as a valid login in an Internet facing system! And SSNs weren't obfuscated in any interfaces.

Not a big fan of Congress, but Congress needs to burn Equifax to the ground and dump salt on the ashes.

So my department has taken on like 5 new director level positions over the past year, and just took a hit in the round of layoffs/downsizing that just happened. Of course, none of those brand new director positions were affected (despite everything running perfectly fine for the past 5+ years with just 2 directors), but my corner of the department lost one person and 3 positions "permanently," one of which was my fucking full time spot that I was supposed to be getting after the hiring freeze that happened before the layoffs was lifted. So quite a few people on my floor of the office and the manager of the spot I was supposed to be getting are all rather pissed off at the moment. Oh, and I'm supposed to have a fellow part time co-worker for my position, which was the 3rd position we lost, so yay me, I get to continue running things solo with no reliable backup if I get sick or to actually take some time off.

Also, can we stop with fucking reorgs every three months? I think there's been 4 reorgs alone this year, and I'm sure another one is coming with the loss of one of the account managers. I've switched managers 3 times this year.

Are you looking elsewhere? Seems like a good idea to start if not.
