Here's the list in alphabetical order:

01. Chimdi Chekwa: AA in 2010
02. Nate Clements
03. Neal Colzie
04. Chris Gamble
05. Malcolm Jenkins: AA in 2007-08; Thorpe in 2008
06. Ahmed Plummer
07. Bradley Roby: AA in 2012-13
08. Derek Ross
09. Shawn Springs: AA in 1996; Big Ten DPOY in 1996
10. Antoine Winfield: AA in 1997-98; Thorpe in 1998

His college career reminded me quite a bit of Nate Clements.

Stud from day one who was, shall we say, a little inconsistent during that last NFL mandated year in college.

Of that list Springs, Winfield, Gamble and Jenkins are my 2 deep in that order.

This is all said under the assumption you consider Jack Tatum something other than a corner obviously.

Tatum is listed as a CB in the Buckeye record book, but when he played, the CB position was more like the current STAR position (hybrid safety and linebacker). What we consider to be CB's were called defensive halfbacks, and are listed as LH and RH in the Buckeye record book. For example, here's the 1969 defensive backfield, the greatest in Buckeye history:

LH Ted Provost
RH Tim Anderson
S Mike Sensibaugh
CB Jack Tatum

In 1978, Todd Bell was listed as the CB and Ray Ellis was the RH (right halfback), and in 1979 Bell was listed as the Rover and Ellis the RC (right corner). From 1979 forward, the term corner is used and defensive halfback was dropped.

The term Rover was dropped after the 1987 season in favor of a second safety.

I put him around eighth using the list at the top of the thread. I personally just do not think that he is that good of a defender or tackler. He is a very good athlete and is faster than hell but I will be very interested to see where he is drafted at. The only two guys from the list above that I have below him is Ross and Chekwa.

I'd take Ross and Chekwa before Roby. He was too inconsistent and this past year I felt like he was somewhat indifferent at times to what was going on around him.

Meant to vote him 9th, just ahead of Ross. Had a great sophomore year and was extremely lackluster this year...inconsistent in coverage and tackling. He has probably more natural talent than most of that list but really didn't convert that into a successful junior campaign. That being said, I don't think the coaching was there and it is tough to play corner when you cannot trust anyone else in the secondary. Most of the guys on the above list played in an incredible overall secondary, which cannot be said for Roby.

We relied on him so much in run support as well... it's hard for me to rate him among CBs this year. The way he loves to come up and hit people reminds me a lot of Jenkins.

Our 1969 DB's are arguably the greatest in College Football History. Have 4 All-Americans ever assembled in the same defensive backfield? Doubt It.

Nice Post, Lord!

Peace

10th, this year alone made him decent but not great. Last year he was tremendous and then he fell off for whatever reason. Very few signature moments even this year, but many embarrassments

I put him in line with Ashton Youboty. Roby was faster and a better tackler but Youboty was a better technician. If you could combine these two players, they you have a top 5 all time corner

Roby in his sophomore year was the best corner I've seen at tOSU since the '69 crew, other than Winfield (the best corner cover I've ever seen at tOSU). In his junior year, he was mediocre. Not sure why.

Not sure if I'd go quite that far, but I agree that Roby in his soph year was really, really good. And I agree that this past year left a lot to be desired, given where expectations were this summer.

Colzie predates me, but I think the only one on that list I'd put Roby ahead of for certain is Chekwa. Maybe Ross.
