Got to use press coverage and jam the receivers. Tech makes a living on using the short yardage passing game almost like a running game.

I honestly think Florida knew our coverage about 98% of the time based on their motion, and how we reacted. I'm not sure how you disguise what you are going to do defensively against a team that motions their receivers, but to give any offense that upper-hand is difficult.

Texas Tech utilizes at least 4 wide-outs every down, and 5 many times. To allow Harrell to know what the coverage is pre-snap is asking for him to pick you apart. You have to disguise the coverage somehow and hope the front 4 creates enough pressure to force Harrell into bad, quick decesions. It's difficult when you can't blitz from the edge b/c of their wide-ass splits, and blitzes up the middle are either late or easily recognized pre-snap.

I think the wide open formations have made teams weary of sending corners and/or safetys at him. The Tech offensive line averages 323 pounds with the 287 pound center dragging that average down. Your not going to go through that kind of a brick wall so your going to need to send guys quick enough to either get around them or through the gaps.

I think pressure on a lot of their plays is going to be hard. So many of Techs throws are so quick.

I think the way to beat them is to frustrate them in the redzone.

That's the advantage they have with the wide splits. You're making it a longer distance for the DE's to rush from the ends, and anything up the middle is easily recognized by Harrell. They spread you out so wide, that any safeties or linebackers close to the LOS is an easy give-away of a potential blitz. Mike Leach has created an amazingly efficient offense.

A strong run game to keep them off of the field, and crossing your fingers in hopes the have the drops or Harrell catches a cold hand is about all you can hope for.

I think Oklahoma wins because there run offense is good enough to keep Tech off of the field for long stretches, and I think the D is good enough to get a few stops.

I don't think their secondary is up to the challenge. If they can't get pressure, it's going to be another shootout IMO.

EDIT: It's going to be MORE of a shootout, I should say.

Big 12 has a lot of good quarterbacks this year. I think Texas has a pretty good defense but it's shakey beyond that.

We (UVA) had some success last year with our 3-4. Mixing up which linebackers drop to coverage. It helps that we had two very good corners and oh yeah, a defensive end that required a triple-team.

That worked for three quarters until our offense gave TT's offense some nice short fields to work with.

I would say....USC D line is good to cause them some trouble...

But after watching Texas Tech play....One thing is for sure -

"The game is won or lost at the line of scrimmage!"

You have good o line ....QB has a lot of time to throw...Receivers can get free...Once that starts clicking running game can start going too...and that means you can score on every drive ...like they did!

That is what happened in our USC game...we had no time at all...that is why we managed only 3 points! - well let's not go there again...

- Best way is to keep the offense off the field by having a good running game...their D isn't that strong...

- Running game in the 1st half...keep the D on the field for 75% of the half...can afford to be down by a touchdown...or equal..

Second half - D is already tired towards the end of third quarter....go for the big plays (need to have 3-4 big plays that should work)...By this time our D guys are fresh coz they didnt play much in the first half...pressure the QB...I would vote for a late hit on the QB just to let him know that you are there and will be coming after him!

That is the only way to win!

Some plays its possible but with all of the quick short yardage passing they do it makes nearly impossible on a lot of plays
