How can you guys claim 7 national championships?

Well we sure can't compete with this...

The Texas Trophy Case
------------------------
Recruiting Champs 2000
Recruiting Champs 2001
BigXII South Champs 2001
BigXII 2nd place champs 2001
BigXII South Co-Champs 2002
Cotton Bowl Champs 2002
First Half Champs (Vs OU) 2002
2-Loss Champs (Best 2 loss team) 2002
2nd Place Champs-Holiday Bowl 2003
State of Texas Champs (Beat Baylor, TAMU, TTU) 2003, 2004
B12 South 2nd Place Champs 2003, 2004
Rose Bowl Champs 2004 (38-37 over Michigan, who lost to OSU 21-37 just over a month before)
The AP Poll Pre-Season Team of the Decade (Highest Avg Pre-Season Ranking 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005)

Just in fun, Texas fans. An OU fan sent this to me. :)

 Second place champs of a bowl game!!! Awesome!

By the way, didn't USC have two losses in 2002? If we're talking about removing trophies from trophy cases, I'd say Texas ships the "best 2-loss team" trophy (another one that made me laugh) about 1200 miles west.

I'd just like to point out that it was President Nixon who made you National Champs (in a year in which Penn State was also undefeated) with a post game telephone call to the Longhorn locker room. Is that something you want to hang your Stetson on?

Man, you guys are just hi-larious. Keep it up though Sept. 10th. You know what is really funny - I was actually born in Columbus.

Cincibuck, you're absolutely right. It was President Nixon - not the sportswriters and coaches - who made Texas #1 in 1969. In fact it says in Article 2 of the Constitution that in addition to the power to appoint judges and executive officers, "the president shall, at any time he sees fit, appoint a college football national champion, and the pollsters shall follow his instructions accordingly." Good to see you are up on your history.

One more stat for you: Ohio State has three consensus national champions: 1942, 1968, and 2002. Texas has two: 1963 and 1969. Not too much difference there, and the score will be even after this season.

Good luck September 10th. Anyone got a ticket for me? :)

Its just the facts, man. Years in which our teams have finished #1 in both the AP and UPI polls: Ohio State has three, and Texas has two. That is undisputable.

And I just looked up 1957 - AP National Champion Auburn went undefeated while you guys had one loss. So that's yet another national championship that shouldn't count!

So I've got you at three legitimate national championships and a 1954 split with UCLA.

Since when do split championships not count? That's just fucking stupid. By that logic, that means if there is a split championship then there is indeed NO champion. I'm amazed at how much macho tunnel vision there is out there to keep people from accepting a tie.

Dude,

STFU

Bro your team is going to get punked on national TV...... enjoy your preseason ranking and again watch your John Cooper-ish coach drown your hopes into oblivion. In a slightly sad way I feel your pain, but show a touch of class and act like the rest of your fans.

Oh don't forget to write us the day after your beating at the SHOE.

PS; Can anybody else smell the fear from this guy? Big 12!!!! HA!

I'm not saying split national championships don't count. But at the very least you should restrict it to the two major polls. By that count, Ohio State has five and Texas has three. Most reasonable people go by that count. Look at college football data warehouse for example.

Now if you want to redo the tally based on obvious problems with the major polls, you would take away OSU's 1957 title as well as Texas' 1970 title. That leaves OSU with four and Texas with two. In real terms, I would go by that count, but the polls are such a tradition that I don't have a big problem with schools claiming years such as 1957 and 1970 as national championship seasons.

I've been following UT for over twenty years, and I have never been so confident going into a season. Usually you are hoping things break your way, but this year every facet of the football team is experienced, polished, and ready to go. Meanwhile, I look at OSU and see a team that doesn't even know who their QB is going to be. I cannot WAIT for September 10th!!! No better way to jumpstart a national championship season.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
