Horseshoes and Hand Grenades Meets Philosophical Musings

I don't know if this will work or not, but I thought it might be an interesting topic:

What makes this woman "hot"?

n1264822536_59844_6450.jpg

As this is philosophical musings, I am asking this question in terms of what in our psychology, in our history, in our culture, in our meaning-making processes cause us to believe she is hot?

Okay, so the first two answers suggest that her confidence makes here hot? Is this to imply that if she looked exactly the same, but wasn't confident (or at least didn't give such an impression in the picture) she would not be hot?

Second, why is confidence an attraction?

If she were shy and unhappy with her self image, she wouldn't be dressed that way. She'd likely be trying to hide those bodacious tata's, would not have that "catch me, fuck me" grin on her face, and would be going out of her way to avoid being noticed. Not showing off for the camera.

She's hot, she knows she's hot, and she wants everyone else to see she's hot.

That's hawt!

Hip to waist ratio, clear smooth skin, a smile with good teeth, clean silky hair all impart a message of youth and health. Even her pose is meant to portray youth and innocence. That in turn suggests her ability to have healthy children. It goes back millions of years, we can't fight it.

I am not attracted to large boobs, natural or enhanced. I do find it odd that I am attracted to women that have physical traits the exact opposite of me. I go for dark hair, eyes and skin, shorter with a round booty. Where in my messed up mind did this attraction come from? Watching TV as a kid?

It is interesting how we project our impression of her intelligence and or confidence based on a picture. Having never met or spoken with her I have no idea if she is confident, articulate or intelligent. Even if she is she could be a bitch to the nth degree and that would negate any of her physical traits.

Good point on enhanced boobs, women get them for their self image, should I say lack of. I am sure many of us have known a drop dead gorgeous woman that has had major self image issues.

In the end, I'd hit it.

If you have to ask then you have problems. :wink2:

Seriously , it all stems from our inborn basic male compulsions.
That is our testosterone levels drive our urge to slam women up against a wall and slam the meat to them so hard they beg for mercy , and more ,
Oh Yes ! MORE!

From an evolutionary point of view, it is said that big tits reinforces the idea that she would be a good mate, able to feed babies. Big hips indicate a strong bearer of babes, that will be less likely to die in child birth, thus able to make more babies, ensuring the continuation of the dna of the father.

From a psychological point of view, many have put forth the idea that big tits attract because they bring out latent mother/baby relationship feelings, the comfort that came from being "at breast", being held by the mother while feeding.

The come hither look she has pretty much needs no explanation. It makes the viewer feel she wants them to "slam her up against and wall" as was mentioned. :-)

Interesting point. I read a study of the most beautiful people in history, and the biggest constant is a symetrical face. Meaning that both sides match. Amazing how many peoples left and right sides are totally different. The beautiful people from any culture have symetrical faces.

Oh....and symetrical tits.

It's kind of along the same lines. In fact, studies have shown that the fusiform area of the brain takes part in this facial recognition at an instantaneous rate.

Studies show that when we recognize a face as "beautiful" we are actually making a judgement about the health and vitality of that individual. We interpret facial symmetry (the similarity of left and right halves of a face) and the smoothness of the skin to mean that a person has good genes and has been free from diseases. This is part of what we mean by "beautiful" but it is just the beginning.
Studies have shown that facial symmetry is one of the best observational indicators of good genes and healthy development and that these traits are what we mean when we say someone is attractive. Look at these examples below.

Beauty equals good genes is the concept I was poorly explaining. What we viscerally find attractive is what constitutes a "good mate", a strong bearer or provider of children. Obviously, it's not all that matters, but it's a lizard brain split second evaluation.

This link has some great suggestions for reading on this topic.

Historically, standards of beauty have been very different. For example, it was once considered the height of beauty for a woman to be fat. Not a little bit, a lot. If she was fat she was attractive because it meant she had plenty to eat and was therefore well off and healthy. Thin indicated poor and therefore starving.

Beauty, of course, does still lie in the eye of the beholder. An interesting study of attractiveness, broken down by figure areas, can be found here.

This study came up with some basic "body ideals."

Which do you find attractive:

Woman A: Woman B: Woman C: Woman D:

Personally I find them all attractive.

Attitude, intelligence, personality all plays into the equation. It does not hurt the cause if they are smoking hot and have an eight digit bank account.
