Home Repairs/HoneyDo List/Advice & Tips/etc.

So the brush roll on the cheap Bissell I picked up at Walmart 3 years ago froze up, but my mom just moved down and in with us as well, and she brought her 20+ year old Kenmore canister with her at my request to see how it ran and if we should replace it. Well, the verdict is in and it is definitely giving up the ghost, so time to replace it. That leaves me with the question of what to buy. I'd prefer a canister over an upright, and my first inclination was to just go to Sears and pick up another Kenmore (either a 400 or Elite series). After some research, Miele entered the picture, but they're hard to find around me, with only Bed Bath & Beyond carrying a few models and then the small local appliance stores which aren't anywhere near me. Also eyeing up the Dysons now, and their cordless ones look interesting. The recent Kenmore reviews are making me a little weary of if I could even expect 5 years out of their new models, so I'm leaning towards Miele or Dyson.

So, anyone with a Kenmore, Miele, or Dyson, any thoughts/praises/gripes? Heading out in an hour or so to go browsing, so I'm not hopeful for a lot of feedback, but any I do get would be greatly appreciated. Also, yes, I know, they all suck.

Eureka makes a decent product.

Had the below for about 7 years, only changed the belt a couple of times and very easy to maintain. I think I got it at Target and paid something like $130 for it.

Looking to have a 250' fence built in our back yard for the pets. I live in Licking County.

1) Anyone hire out for this recently? What did you pay per linear foot?

2) anyone have any good recommendations for a contractor?

3) Anyone do it themselves in the past? Would you recommend that or avoid it?

'm not too keen on the scope of the project, especially with how long it took me to complete my deck. One thing I plan to explore is whether a contractor will bring the supplies, install the posts and then halt labor before building the fence itself. I'm not sure if they do that or how much it would save me, but that would be a much more reasonable task to do solo.

Pay someone to do it unless you have a helper or two for the entire project.

Even then I'm rather inclined to hire out if I can swing it. Thanks for confirming my initial research.
I've hired out fence work in the past, and would only undertake small fencing jobs myself. My only word of advice is to insist on screws instead of nails if you're going with a privacy or picket fence.
Good call. Quality fasteners are a must. Not just stability but a brand new fence with fastener leaks/stains is the worst.

Anyone you hire will get it up much quicker than you ever could.

Worth the price for the expediency of someone else doing it.

PATRIOT POWER WASHES SCRIPT OHIO INTO DRIVEWAY

91269_h.jpg

Even enemies of Ohio State can't deny all Buckeye fans are rich and live opulent lifestyles. While they eke out short, brutish existences, OSU fans eat grapes by the pool and ponder patriotic displays while maintaining their countryside estates.

The latest genius is Reddit user Boberta5000, who laconically declared "Power washing is an art" while dropping his latest masterpiece on r/powerwashingporn.

Make no mistake, this is an elevation from the mowed Script Ohio and the gauntlet has been laid down to all Buckeye homeowners.

Missed this. Sorry. Just wanted to agree. I entered a longer term contractual agreement. She's been getting it up quicker for me for the duration of the job. Well worth the price. The occasional free sammich has been a bonus.

An electronic gadget question: I have a Samsung smart TV with very limited connections. It is not Bluetooth enabled. I also have wireless headsets that work with a bluetooth transmitter that plugged in to my old TV with either a 3.5mm plug or the dual red&white audio cables.

The only audio out connection on the Samsung is Digital Audio Out (Optical). The Samsung is Dolby.

So, I want to connect the transmitter to the new TV. I'm looking at Dolby Digital to Analog Converters on Amazon. Is that my best way to go?
