Sounds like my guest bathroom project. Just found out I need to replace the shower valve because Kohler stopped making trim kits that will fit the old one.

Yeah, I'll be replacing the valve...I don't know how to do plumbing (yet), father in law will be doing it for me

Love the demo.....

Are you putting in the new shower floor yourself? Tile or prefab?

Keeping the steel tub that's already there. It's in great shape. I'm tiling the surrounding walls, and floor

I'm replacing the wet bar sink in my soon to be sold hopefully house in Springfield. I went to clean it this past weekend thinking I would run some water through it and ended up having a very cold jet of water shooting up in the kitchen.

Basically the stem beneath the cold water handle corroded to the point where it broke apart. When I turned the handle, the handle basically fell off (since the top of the stem was screwed to the handle - it's an older sink design - which was a bit of a surprise to say the least.

Once I shut off the water below the sink on both sides, the hot water stem was basically in the same shape. :shake:

Here's where I stand. I'm done for the night. Pretty good for 3 hours of work (removed old tile floor/linoleum, removed toilet, removed vanity/sink, and demo'd the old tile walls)

Whoever installed the tile walls that I tore down was an idiot....you don't use greenboard under the tiles. I can't believe the wall was still up after demoing it. I kid you not, I barely tapped the middle of that back wall, and from the middle all the way to the right side just crumbled.

That would have sucked for the wifey if it collapsed in the shower

The same thing happened when I helped my brother demo one of his bathrooms.

make sure you stuff a rag down the drain hole of the toilet.

Lots of progress today...after about 8-9 hours of tiling, its starting to look like a bathroom again. I am exhausted

Looks great! When the greenboard was first introduced it was touted, for a brief period, as ideal to use as a backerboard for tile work. I used it in a walk in shower about 25 or so years ago. It's still there, although that shower is in a guest bath and only used about 10 or so scattered days a year.

True. I wouldn't use it in a shower now, but I would in the other parts of the bathroom

Lookin good. You're way ahead of me. I got my vapor barrier and Hardiebacker installed yesterday and called it a day. Gotta fill and sand some drywall tonight and paint, and then start tiling the shower.

Yeah, I was debating skim coating and painting around the shower first, then tiling. But I decided with the holiday yesterday, I just wanted to get it over with in one day
