Had a nice conversation about traditions with jwin the other day, and I thought it would be interesting to see what others do for the holidays. Here are a few of mine:
Community - Our entire subdivision used to work together to put luminaries along all our roads on Christmas Eve. The police and firefighters escorted Santa Claus and his gigantic sleigh filled with caroling teenagers through the neighborhoods. The kids would hear "Ho, ho, ho!" over the loudspeakers and run outside to see the lights and wait as Santa handed a small gift to each child. Lived there long enough be the kid running outside and the teenager on the sleigh. It was a great way to bring people together - and to get the wee ones calmed down enough to sleep a little. :)
Family - Everyone in my family had a mouse ornament representing him or her on the tree. When my brother was born, I apparently threw a tantrum because he needed a mouse in order to be part of the family. We found one - in July - and all was merry.
Personal - As a Sunday School activity, we received little mangers in which to place a piece of hay for doing good deeds out of the ordinary. Had to do enough good to fill the manger so baby Jesus would be comfortable on Christmas morning. I don't have the manger any more, but have sort of adopted the idea in other ways. It's a nice way to keep focused.
Your turn! :)
