HILLIARD DAVIDSON
"Wildcats"
Davidson reaches 9-0 with hard fought win over Westerville North.
Coach Brian White played a little game of cat and mouse early, keeping star tailback Christen Haywood out of the mix on their first offensive series. On their second offensive series, the game became the Christen Haywood show.
Haywood at times looked like Emmitt Smith, other times, he looked like Ironhead Heywood. Slashing through holes and then planting a safety on his rear to finish the run. No doubt to anyone there, Haywood was back.
But the hit of the night belonged to 150 pound safety, Cody Sieple. Leading 17-7 and facing a third and 9, North threw a hook route on the right seem. Cody met receiver and ball simultaneously, sending both unceremoniously flopping to the ground, That hit lit up the crowd and Davidson was back in it. It was Sieple's second big hit of the night. The first took a receiver out of the play on a tipped ball, allowing the ball to be picked by the Cats.
Davidson led 31-24 with 30 seconds to go or so. North has the ball at the Davidson 7. Four incompletes later, Davidson wins and the Warriors head home heartbroken. Great game all around.
