Want to avoid any politics but interesting to see Texas Pres leave for SMU.
Feels similar to some college coaches taking demotions (or leaving to NFL) because they are increasingly being asked to do more with less control, instead of actually making an impact/coaching.
Oh and still be paid handsomely too.
Higher Ed in this country is fascinating right now.
Yes. Absolutely terrifying in so many aspects. In a bad way right?
It will be interesting to see if the "elite" schools start complying with this by increasing their enrollment of highly qualified Asian-Americans (who at times get quotaed like Jews used to) at the expense of less-qualified white kids. Here in California, long ago, there was the Bakke case. White sued a university (Cal, seem to recollect), that they accepted a less qualified minority person than he into their medical/legal school. Won the case, on a hush-hush basis, and was accepted. Reverse discrimination has been around as long as the DEI programs were pushed forward. Since my college years are well behind me, and daughter is through with her schooling, haven't paid much attention. But if these universities accept the federal funding, must also accept the federal gotcha's.
Well, that's exactly what they should be doing. Are they? Well.... I guess we'll see...It will be interesting to see if the "elite" schools start complying with this by increasing their enrollment of highly qualified Asian-Americans (who at times get quotaed like Jews used to) at the expense of less-qualified white kids.
I'm just kind of curious as to whether no "DEI" and "only meritocracy" can or will be read by one or more "elite" institutions to prohibit inclusion of less-qualified white kids who happen to be multi-generational legacies with big donor parents, and, if so, what the feds will do should such big donors complain to them about it.Funny you mentioned that, Jagdaddy. When time came for daughter to look at colleges, looked at the school demographics, to see what percentage of Asian/Americans were there. And back in the day, in SF, Asians fought for, and won, a guaranteed percentage of enrollment at the 'best' (Lincoln) HS in SF. In later years, that percentage became an upper limit, and the Asian population argued for getting rid of that percentage. Apropos of exactly nothing.
My understanding is very few have done much about legacy admissions.I'm just kind of curious as to whether no "DEI" and "only meritocracy" can or will be read by one or more "elite" institutions to prohibit inclusion of less-qualified white kids who happen to be multi-generational legacies with big donor parents, and, if so, what the feds will do should such big donors complain to them about it.
