Hello everyone, I love these boards, I am a huge Buckeye fan! My wife and I will be comming to Columbus hopefully next month(depends if I land this job or any soon) as she will be earning her DMA. My question for eveyone is what places in Cbus can you reccomend to live near campus but relativley(sp?) safe? Also do students get access to Buckeye tixs before the public? I really hope to catch some good football, baseball games finnaly as I havent seen either in a few yrs. Thanks for the help and the kickass forums!

If you need to be close to campus, I'd recommend Grandview, Upper Arlington or Clintonville. Victorian Village is pretty nice too. All should fill your safety requirements. Good luck finding a place....and welcome to BP.

I can personally recommend Clintonville--I grew up there on Glenmont Avenue, and later Cooke Road.

You might look at Olentangy Village, too. The latter is a bit farther south than the former, but they're both on High Street, and not very far from the campus at all.

Your wife's going for her DMA, huh? What's her instrument, or is she a composition major? I majored in music at Capital years ago, but tOSU's music school has grown by leaps and bounds. Hope she does great!!

Any idea who she'll be studying with? Richard Tetley-Kardos and George Haddad were the main guys in my day (both long gone), and later it was Earl Wild. Haven't kept up with faculty changes, I'm afraid.

Hope she's very successful, but both of you--remember to save Fall Saturdays for the 'Shoe--there's nothing quite like it!!

What kind of environment are looking for? Suburban/urban/close to urban but not too much?

In my opinion, the best place to live for anyone connected to Ohio State is German Village. It's directly south of downtown has a great neighborhood feel to it. There's no real strip as in the Short North/Victorian Village area. Rather, the bars and restaurants are integrated into the neighborhood. It is, however, pricey--on a level of the more expensive suburbs.

Victorian Village is close, and offers the benefits of being able to walk to campus. It has a great strip of bars, restaurants coffee houses.

A lot of new condos are going up in the heart of downtown. My understanding is that there's a ten year abatement on property tax for these apartments and lofts. The downside is that street level shopping/dining hasn't caught up to increased population; however, German Village and The Short North are walking distance.

Grandview is nice in that it has urban amenities (good restaurants/bars, trendy, high population density) but still feels somewhat suburban.

I'm not a suburb guy, so I'll leave it to others to give the highs and lows here.

Good luck on finding accomodations, always room for another Buckeye!

I assume since you are a "huge Buckeye fan" that you are from Ohio, where abouts?

I am from SE Ohio near Athens. She is orginally from Japan.

We are just looking for a safe quiet place to live with a good range of different things to see, and we dont have to drive 15 min just to get gas or milk like I have to here. lol:osu::osu::osu:
