Headlines You Don't See Every Day (outside of Florida)

We actually have more of them than I thought ( the Eastern timber rattlesnake, northern copperhead, and the massasauga rattlesnake) but the majority appear to be around the river.

Timber rattlers carry plenty of venom, but deaths from their bites are rare. The big snakes come in two color phases, yellow over brown and blackish brown with a black head.

They're most numerous in the more remote areas of Zaleski, Pike, Shawnee and Tar Hollow state forests

Simply delighted to learn, however, that all those times I went camping & trekking around Tar Hollow, that I could have been greeted with a freaking Timber Rattler. Had never heard that they lived there.

I don't know much about the timber rattlers. we have cane break and eastern Diamondbacks here.

they're not real easy to find, but we do have them.

copperheads are more plentiful. but again they hide really well, so you gotta be looking for them. most people who find them in they yards live near woods and find them in flower beds or garages or under old boats or something.

water moccasins ain't shy. they don't really try to hide either.
if you near water or marsh (and I'm surrounded by marsh here), there's some snakes.

as kids/teens we'd go out into the marsh with pellet rifles and come home with a dozen or so a few times a week.

from my personal experience:

I find rattlers while quite dangerous typically aren't very mean. they make they noise and coil up, but you gotta really mess with it for it to strike.

copperheads get a bad rap because they bite more people than the others, but they're not vicious. they just blend in amazingly well with their surroundings and will not move at all until you're gone. unfortunately people step on them not knowing they're there and that's when bites happen.

moccasins are just dickheads. they go where they want when they want. and they won't really back down either. they stand their ground with mouth open in strike position. you move toward them and they are ready to nail you. when I see them, they die. no questions asked.

my family has noticed an increase in the copperheads in the last 10 years or so(they live in perry county so lots of woods). just on their 9 acres they have caught/killed probably half a dozen in the last 5 years.. Ive never never seen one in ohio myself, I did catch one down in georgia with my barehand when i was 19 and stupid lol.

CLOSE CALL: Surfers have given #9News this photo, captured near
where Ben Gerring was fatally killed by a shark.

OK. I know there's nothing funny about the poor guy who died from the shark attack. In fact, I was gonna add R.I.P., but then recognized in that situation, it could stand for Rest In Pieces.

But, what made me do a double-take was the realization they'd written "fatally killed."

Umm, maybe it's an Australian thing, but is there some other kind? Is the author of the headline a big fan of The Princess Bride?
Are some shark attack victims only mostly killed?

"My mate Liam was killed by a shark last week, but he's much better now."

Pokemon Go leads teen to dead body

http://money.cnn.com/2016/07/09/technology/pokemon-go-dead-body/

On Friday morning, she grabbed her iPhone 6 and slipped on a pair of sandals. Then she took a short walk to explore the Big Wind River, which winds behind her home in the town of Riverton.

"I was trying to get a water Pokemon," she explained.

The game cautions users to keep aware of their surroundings. But like most players, Wiggins stared intently at her phone as she made her way beneath the Wyoming Highway 789 Bridge.

She spotted two deer near the water -- but still no Pokemon. So, she walked down to the rocky river bank. She didn't immediately notice the man's body lying face down in the water six feet to her left.

"I guess I was only paying attention to my phone and where I was walking," she said.

When she finally realized she was standing near a corpse, Wiggins called the police and led them to the scene.

‘Pakistan’s Kim Kardashian’ Murdered For Her Facebook Posts

When reports of Qandeel Baloch being killed by her own brother out of his religious zealotry first surfaced, I was appalled.

Then they start saying it like this and I want to make sure we are giving the guy a fair shake.

Can't see very clearly, but that shark looks like a "raggy". Ragged-tooth sharks look fearsome, but I've scuba dived with them many times at Aliwal Shoals in the caves or Sodwana Bay, with no problems. Even touched them in winter when they enter mating season and don't eat. This youtube video is pretty much what I have experienced.

In the interest of transparency, white tip reef sharks, black tip reef sharks and great whites are another matter. I once had to surface after nearly twenty minutes of watching hammerheads like this going overhead. If you listen closely, you can hear that this guy also is from Ohio.
