Head-coaching comings and goings

Oops. Guess they haven't turned the corner after all. Are X fans gonna whine about him like they did about Matta, or are they gonna suck it up and root for the next good coach they elevate/hire?

I was thinking the same thing regarding their feelings about coaches leaving. I'm guessing their hatred of Miller won't rival how they feel about Matta (due to Thad being at OSU).

On another note, I wonder if Miller will try to take his brother out to Arizona with him?

If Miller does go to Arizona, this might have implications on the Ohio State coaching staff according to this link

Matta looking for help again?

A rumor for much of this season has been that if Sean Miller left Xavier for a coaching job in a major conference, he would hire his younger brother Archie as an assistant provided the school did not have a rule against such a hiring. Archie Miller just completed his second season as an Ohio State assistant.

Well, Sean Miller took a private jet to Arizona today to check out the campus and the job after initially rebuffing the Wildcats last week. He is back home in Cincinnati tonight reportedly weighing whether to accept an offer said to be in excess of $2 million per year.

If Thad Matta has to fill a vacancy on his Ohio State staff for the second year in a row, it would not be surprising if he stays close to his coaching tree, as he did last year when he replaced John Groce with his former Butler player and Xavier assistant, Brandon Miller. Groce, whom Matta hired at Butler, Sean Miller, whom he hired at Xavier, and Archie Miller all worked for current Arizona State coach Herb Sendek when Sendek was at North Carolina State. Matta worked for Sendek when Sendek was at Miami University.

I wonder what Memphis is waiting for:huh: supposedly the number one choice is Leonard Hamilton but I wonder if they are courting someone who is one of the assistants in one of the final four teams.

I wonder who the front runner to the job at X will be. That could be very interesting.

7 years, $18 million for Miller AP source: Xavier's Sean Miller headed to Arizona. I just wonder if he has enough recruiting contacts in LA-LA land and Texas to snag the recruit to be competetive at the level UofA expects.
I am wondering where Josh Pastner winds up-former UA player/Olson protege who went to coach under Calipari at Memphis this year-he is known as a hotshot recruiter.
As far as Xavier goes-either Butler's coach, or maybe Brad Brownell from Wright State.

I guess Arizona increased the ante from yesterday and that must have sealed the deal. There is quite a bit of talent with California and the entire Southwest for him to recruit from not to mention his Midwest ties. Don't think he will have much problems recruiting. Maybe initially.

I would be surprised to see one of his assistants get the job so they don't lose their recruits and possibly some of their players. Doesn't the Butler to Xavier coaching train have to stop some time:)

I agree it seems like a good hire by Memphis, if he can keep some of that recruiting class together, along with keeping most of the returnees from bolting, he could survive the transition and keep the Tigers purring (pun intended) along nicely.

Great hire. Good thing Floyd didn't accept.

Some crack addled poster on one of the Zona' boards claims tOSU's whole 10' recruiting class will decommit and follow Archie Miller to Tucson...:slappy::slappy::slappy:

It might be nice if Xavier did not hire their assistant coach and he went to Arizona with Miller. That would probably mean that Miller's brother would stay at Ohio State which would be nice:)
Cincinnati

Horn denies contact with XU
By Shannon Russell ? [email protected] ? April 9, 2009

The State (S.C.) newspaper reported Thursday that South Carolina coach Darrin Horn had spoken to Xavier about its head coaching vacancy and visited Cincinnati that day, based on confirmation by multiple sources.
The State also said Horn wasn?t at a Thursday afternoon team workout but returned later in the day.

?I don?t get involved in rumor mills that are out there, however, contrary to published reports, I have not spoken to any other schools nor am I looking to,? Horn said. ?I am proud of what we accomplished this season and am excited about the future of South Carolina basketball. I can?t wait to get to workouts with our players tomorrow and continue recruiting this spring.?

Horn, 36, just finished his first season with the Gamecocks.

? Poll: Who should replace Sean Miller?

His name was also linked to the Xavier opening by Foxsports.com senior college basketball writer Jeff Goodman. He wrote Wednesday in his blog that Horn, Xavier assistant Chris Mack and Cleveland State?s Gary Waters were rumored to be potential candidates.

Rivals.com?s list of potential successors for the position left by Sean Miller included Wright State?s Brad Brownell, Texas Christian?s Jim Christian, Butler?s Brad Stevens, and Mack.

Mack has had the only confirmed interview. The 39-year-old former Xavier player and five-year XU assistant garnered the first sit-down with athletic director Mike Bobinski.

Both parties said their Wednesday meeting went very well.

Bobinski has said the process will involve several people. He declined comment Thursday on queries concerning particular candidates.

?I?ll never talk about any specific candidate beyond the internal guy. I?m not going to confirm, deny, or in any way say anything about that,? Bobinski said.
