HC Ryan Day (National Champion)

"On Friday, cleveland.com obtained a copy of the term sheet for Day’s new deal via public records request. Here are the details of the agreement."

$2mio base + $7 mio for "media services" (whatever that means). 250k for B1G conference championship. $1mio for CFP championship.

$6 mio buyout (if he leaves) which goes down by 500k each year? seems kinda, umm, paltry?

50 hours of private jet use? that's, what, two roundtrips to hawaii?

The media services are all the clips, soundbytes and nonsense interviews he has to go through every year.

Congrats Coach! You earned it, first Natty in 10yrs and got through a lot of BS to get over the mountaintop

It's amazing how hard it is to win a Natty and what seemingly small moments can just totally change the outcome. I'm only going to bring up the Georgia loss and the last Clemson loss to point out that a lot of things did not go our way that did go our way. We were the best team in the country, but there were definitely some moments where you felt it was destiny.

Easiest example is the Sawyer scoop and score. He 100% made that entire play leading to the fumble, but then the ball bounces right up to where he can grab it in stride when it could have bounced the other way. Maybe we take over (whether by the fumble or on downs) and run the clock out, but the TD was the absolute dagger. My point is Day was a play or two away from a Natty well before this year, and its exciting for him to finally reach that pinnacle moment.
It's hard to have faith. For about a day or so after the tcun loss I wanted his ass GONE. Then I calmed down and said "this guy is doing it the right way. He's not Cooper. He will turn it around". So far, my faith has been rewarded. You just can't let yourself be swallowed up by negativity.
Same. I stayed off the board or social media until I could cleanse my membrane and calm down. Health and welfare checks were being sent via texts that went unresponded to. It was a moment of complete dissonance in loving Day as a person and realizing he is a great coach, but also feeling like he needed to go if he did not win the Natty because the primary goals (to me the top being beating tcun) not being met. Once the dust settled, I just kept an open mind and general positive outlook going into the Tennessee game.

I saw a quote that said he earned his way to the hot seat, then quickly earned his way off of it. Everyone in the program knew Day was not Cooper for a reason. He has, has, HAS to beat that team moving forward but to think there is a better chance of being the best team we can be is with another coach right now is a fools' errand. I am thrilled to have him as our coach for on the field and off the field reasons...he is an excellent person on top of a coach and as said above "you win with people".
What a well-written article, really worth the read. As a Lantern alumnus, it makes me swell with pride to see such quality content still coming from The Lantern. When I was there, they held you to the standards of major publications and demanded excellence. Seems they still are and that makes me very happy to see a tradition continue when I am about 15 years removed. I know there will be more to come out of "the meeting" story, but this already explains a lot.

The 12 team playoff came along at just the right time. The bells were rolling and the long knives were out.
He earned his way onto the hottest of hot seats and then earned his way off of it in the last chance of last chances kind of way.

If it's any of the previous 134 years of OSU football, he's gone.

It's still hard to believe.

Set aside an hour and watch this baby:

Watched that during my cardio this morning. Time well spent. I think that we’re just starting to have the surface scratched in terms of stories we’ll end up hearing. I look forward to some of the human interest stuff from this group. They were very easy to root for and like.

Ohio State HC Ryan Day’s recent admission shows the team was thinking the same thing as Buckeye Nation about the College Football Playoff draw

Ohio State rebounded in a special way after losing to Michigan on Nov. 30. The Buckeyes tallied off four straight wins to capture their first National Championship in a decade.

If anyone said they thought that Ohio State would respond in that way after losing to the Wolverines, they likely were just kidding. It was the best run we have ever seen with wins over Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame.

Recently, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day admitted that the Buckeyes’ first reaction to the draw was that it looked like a really tough road in a recent interview with WBNS 10TV.

“When we all came together, we figured we’d get a tough draw. We saw the draw and was like, ‘That’s a really tough draw’,” Day said. “We thought we were going to play one of the better teams in the SEC coming up here, we knew that was going to be an absolute battle.”

Ohio State came out with a 42-17 win over Tennessee and it was quite the statement against one of the SEC’s better teams in 2024. The rematch against Oregon was even more impressive and the Buckeyes led that one 31-0 at one point. Ohio State got revenge against Oregon by the way or a 41-21 win. Ohio State was hot at the right time and the team was enjoying getting it done.

“We were gonna take it one day at a time, one practice at a time,” Day explained. “I think a big part of the success we had is that guys continued to enjoy coming into the building every day.“

Day and the Buckeyes didn’t let down against Texas and they scored a couple of hit plays that proved to be the difference in a 28-14 win. Ohio State was not really tested against Notre Dame and the game was not as close as the score 34-23 shows.

“We are obviously biased but it is hard to say there was a better run in college football because there has never been a playoff like that before, where you're playing back-to-back big-time games and fighting for a National Championship.”
