HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

TRANSFER PORTAL MOVES, COACHING STAFF CHANGES SHOWS RYAN DAY’S SENSE OF URGENCY ENTERING SIXTH YEAR AS OHIO STATE’S COACH

145022_h_0.jpg

THE PAST THREE WEEKS HAVE LEFT NO DOUBT ABOUT THE SENSE OF URGENCY RYAN DAY FEELS FOR OHIO STATE TO GET BACK TO ACHIEVING ITS MAJOR GOALS IN 2024.

Between the power moves Ohio State has made in the transfer portal and the changes Day has made to the Buckeyes’ coaching staff, he’s sent a clear message that the status quo from the past few years isn’t good enough.

Since Ohio State’s 2023 season ended with back-to-back losses – a third straight defeat to Michigan and a 14-3 loss to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl – the Buckeyes have been as aggressive as they’ve ever been before in terms of pursuing transfer talent.

The Buckeyes could have entered 2024 with a quarterback trio of Devin Brown, Lincoln Kienholz, and Air Noland and probably found a good enough starter between them. Instead, Day brought in potential upgrades for the present and the future, adding experienced former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard as Ohio State’s likely 2024 starter and Alabama transfer Julian Sayin, the top-ranked quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class, as a likely starter for 2025 and beyond.

Ohio State needed to add depth at running back, but it didn’t necessarily need another star at running back with TreVeyon Henderson returning for his senior season. It got one anyway, bringing in former Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins – a first-team All-SEC honoree in both of his first two collegiate seasons – to pair with Henderson and form the nation’s best running back tandem.

The Buckeyes already had a loaded defense, but that didn’t stop them from pulling out all the stops to land former Alabama safety Caleb Downs, beating out Georgia to bring the No. 1 player to enter the transfer portal this offseason to Columbus.

The moves Day and Ohio State have made over the past three weeks should bolster the Buckeyes’ chances of achieving all three of those goals in a season that Ohio State will now enter with clear championship expectations.

At a minimum, Ohio State’s active start to the offseason makes it clear that Day won’t go down without a fight.

You all wanted Day to do something. So he shook the tree, got rid of the deadweight and brought in absolute STUDS. And it's still somehow not good enough. Stop moving the goalposts already and just accept reality.
We wanted him to give up play calling to an experienced and creative playcaller, to get rid of Parker Fleming, to sort out the Larry Johnson situation, and to figure out what the fuck is wrong with the OLine. He went out and got some shiny offensive skill positions......and fired Fleming.

How do "we" know if the "Larry Johnson situation" hasn't been figured out internally? Maybe we're not privy to it, and honestly, I don't think any of us should be in any case.

While Billballbag O'Buttchinian wasn't my first pick, he's at least an experienced OC with a successful resume as a play caller in the college game.

Again and for the umpteenth time, I don't know what some of you people want. You wanted change. You got change. And I didn't realize Caleb Downs was an offensive player.....

I literally spelled out what we wanted. One of them was addressed. Stop acting like 1) the wants are unknown and 2) they've all been addressed and 3) any of it is unreasonable.

If you don't know what some people here want you just haven't been paying attention. They want every 5 star recruit, only the highest rated 4 star recruits, every HOF caliber coach as an advisor, and the best current position coaches and coordinators in the country. Then they think every high net worth individual in the state should consider giving all of their philanthropic $ to tOSU collectives. I thought you would have figured that out by now.

Some of us would be content with just winning every game, tcun disbanding their athletic department, razing the stadium, and salting the field. That's the category I'm in.

What I find funny is how many people ( not so much here on BP but in other corners of the intertubz) feel so entitled as to think that what THEY want means a flipping fuck to the the staff. It's not their responsibility to cater to the fanbase. It's the Staff's responsibility to do what's best for the team, the players and the school.

A gazillion times this....we don't matter nor do "our" wants....and they shouldn't either.

Again....we're not privy to everything that's going on. And you wanted change and got it. The people actually responsible for the program are doing what THEY feel is best for said program.

You can be bitter about it if you want. I bitch up and choose positivity instead. Stronzo!

Nobody is bitter though. You came in, claimed the things people wanted to change were nebulous (they weren't) and are now complaining (they're not) because those things haven't really been addressed (some have some, some haven't). Like....what?

Interesting....you've come in, claimed things haven't changed enough to suit you and are now complaining about the changes being made by the people actually paid to make them. Like, what?

Show me where. All I did was answer your misleading question. Maybe I wandered in to a conversation you were having with others, but I'm not saying things haven't changed enough based on my feelings ...and I'm not complaining about anything other than saying I wouldn't have gone after Sayin with Noland already in the fold.

1. He gave up play calling to an experienced, SUCCESSFUL college play caller. Creative is up for debate.

2. Parker Fleming is gone as is Corey Dennis and Perry Eliano. Changes!! ZOMG!!

3. If it was being talked about in the press, it's hard to believe the "Larry Johnson situation" wasn't discussed behind closed doors. Just because YOU don't know anything about the outcome doesn't mean there wasn't one. YOU (nor I) are privy to everything nor should we be.

4. I realize you're a football fan, as am I, but wouldn't you think if you were going to go out and get one of those "experienced and creative play callers" that you'd want your "experienced and creative" playcaller in place FIRST before having him delve into the plethora of issues the oline has? I know I know I know, just do shit to placate the "fan"base and fuck cohesion and strategy! Yeah!! That'll fix it.

tl;dr like, what?
