HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I have never been a hater and have consistently said (not sure how often in writing on the internet) that Day is the best possible coach for Ohio State in the age of NIL and the transfer portal.

He is answering the “Day can’t win the big game” test with flying colors this post season (although as @Jaxbuck pointed put, glimpses of bad Ryan Day, especially offensive play calling, were showing up against Texas), but that is a separate question from whatever the hell happens to him every year in The Game.

Acting like this run answers that question and that anyone who criticized him for that is now an asshole is completely off base, in my opinion.

I’m enjoying the hell out of this. We all should. But Day still needs to work out whatever is broken inside him (and the team) at the end of next November in the biggest possible way.

Needs to fire up this machine one game sooner. Just treat tsun like the 1st round of the playoff.
He needs to bring in a consultant to figure out how to deploy an effective downfield passing game when it is windy and cold. Tennessee was cold, but I believe it was significantly less windy than on November 30 (also Howard was probably concussed).

Oh my gosh.

As much as you and I may hate it, they put years up inside the stadium for National Championships, not Michigan victories.

Would you have traded a scUM win for no National Championship possibilities?

If you say “yes” then you are crazy.

It's going to take a while (like the rest of a generation's lifetime while) to see how this playoff at the end instead of The Game being everything transition plays out.

I personally felt it as a bit of something very awkward when it almost happened in '22. Let's go win this damn thing and spend an off season processing it but even as jaded as I am, I have to admit this cleansing mechanism could work IF......

I’ll take what I can get. In this scenario, the title run makes me feel better. In the other scenario, the rivalry victory would make me feel better. Humans are adaptable and the world is complicated.

If you say beating that team up north doesn’t matter anymore as long as you make a national championship run, you are also crazy.

I don't even think a downfield passing game is mandatory in harsh conditions. Just create more movement and misdirection. Our freakish WRs can get open for low difficulty passes
