Something occurred to me today that I would like to inject into the discussion about Ryan Day’s performance as the OSU head coach. An aspect of it that I have seen touched on lightly should, I believe, get a little more attention. It’s the way his coaching staff has prepared this team for the postseason. Everything we have seen and heard from April on has been about how this team’s been built, coached and deployed to excel in the two months after winning The Game (whoops). Day, Kelly and Knowles are BIA in terms of post-season team readiness, mental preparation, and physical conditioning/health. OSU has the freshest legs and the least amount of player injuries at the skill positions, if not in total, than any other team in the postseason. If there is a happier, more fun and more focused locker room left in college football, I would be shocked.
It’s fun to gripe about game planning and play calling and missed expectations on the Monday morning couch, but let’s not forget about how well this team has bounced back after that ugly loss to TCUN and now how funny it is that such a large number of fans and analysts still refuse to acknowledge that this team is now a death machine. This is the juggernaut we’ve been waiting for! The buckeyes just pantsed two top 10 teams back to back by 20+ points and had a lot of fun doing it. We‘ve finally got the scary team! Why waste the opportunity to soak in that? The players know what’s in front of them. They know who they have to beat and they know they can. Give Coach Ryan Day the credit he deserves for being the BIA at this crucial part of the game and in executing his plan brilliantly through this new extra long college season. In this war of attrition, the Buckeyes have way more bullets than everybody else.
Losing to SCUM was a very bitter pill, but I’m not going to let it spoil the taste of this championship run.
