HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I disagree on every point.
We have a lot of fans who expect nothing but perfection and ignore the fact that many times there are talented and good teams on the other side of the ball.
To each their own, Stroud throwing downfield was literally perfection all game and Day refused to lean on it until the 4th Quarter. If he kept up with the same bubble screen and RB draw garbage, we lose this game.

First three quarters was a masterclass of coaching malpractice.

I am by no means a schematically inclined viewer. However, I look at things holistically.
The presumption that you're making is that Day refused to target the center of the field. I'm inclined to agree when it comes to the quick throws to the sidelines that yielded nothing repeatedly. I think it's worth considering whether or not CJ was targeting areas of the field incorrectly at times.
However, I take Coach Day's interview at the end of the game into my account when he says that they just wanted to get to the fourth quarter and win the game. In light of that, I view it as a matter of playing chess. There's the opening, mid game, and close. There's no doubt that the close happened effectively, precisely, and quickly.

That's essentially why I disagree with the first two points of your post that I responded to. The game was won today, and as noted elsewhere, by a greater margin than has occurred recently and repeatedly.
As for the evisceration by the press that you hope for... Day deals with that on a regular basis within and without the Buckeye fan base. Yet, I imagine that no one is harder on him and his staff than himself.

There was just no reason to wait until the 4th Quarter to start doing what was working. Penn State obviously was incapable of defending throws downfield and yet Day refused to take advantage of it until the 4th Quarter.

A couple weeks ago we watched Michigan run the ball down their throats continuously because Penn State couldn't stop it. It was puzzling Day didn't similarly stick with what was working.

There was zero reason for this game to ever be close today. Stroud could have put up 600 yards and 60 points if Day allowed him to.

And the comment about the media was only because they treat him with kid gloves.

I do believe that Ryan Day is a Top 5 coach in this country. Having said that though, he would have lost this game last year with the Offense called today. So predictable and it caused doubt in the team where CJ didnt quite look himself, until the 4th quarter.

On the flip side he deserves all the credit in the world for having outstanding recruiters and bringing in coach Knowles who has been a wizard in the short half year he's had.

We won. Take the criticism, self evaluate and go forward. We can't completely focus on TTUN now but it's getting closer.

Agreed. To be clear, I love Coach Day and wouldn't trade him for anyone. I've never had an issue with any game he's coached before today, including his losses to Clemson, Bama, Oregon and Michigan. Didn't have an issue with him in any of those games.

But, I honestly don't know how anyone could watch today's game and not think the first 3 quarters were objectively terrible coaching. He's going to be kicking himself when he watches the film tomorrow.

Thank God this happened now and not in late November/December.

Actually today's game mirrors last year's PSU game almost exactly. Offense looked like ass for a half while the defense kept them in it and got some timely turnovers.

True, but that was mostly on the players not the play calling per se. I remember Olave wide open for a TD and CJ air mailed it for example. We couldn't run at all on them last year which I think was due to them being really good at Run D and us running right into them.

We actually ran it pretty well last year. 34 carries for a 161. Granted I think Hendo broke a 60 yarder. Don't get me wrong, today was a great win but I came away with more questions about this team than answers honestly. Questions I thought were answered during the ND game.

I’d rather have Wilson call plays with Day vetoing than what they have now. HC is a huge responsibility don’t want Day overextended and burnt out.Let Wilson Hartline Alford develop the game plan with some Day in put. I don’t think it will be a downgrade and Hartline needs more responsibility to keep him.
