So here's my question, is hate truly an evil? Is it really a necessity? I am here to give my opinion feel free to chime in. So here is my proposal. Hate is necessary, and I don't like to say that. But to me hate is not something stated lightly. To me when you say that word, it is not dislike, despising, or any other such term. To me hate is an utter loathing so strong that you wish something did not exist. So when I say something like, I hate limberger cheese. Yes I think it may be the worst food innovation and should not exist. Which is the reason I will never truly hate someone, even if I may occasionaly explode and say I do.

Okay, so yes hate is bad, but why do I feel it is a necessity. Because of balance. I'm not some hippie-dippy wanna be neo-flower child who is all about karma (though I believe in some) and achieving oneness with the world dude who feels that the world must maintain equality. No it is the law of means. All things being the same, everything tends to go to the middle. So therefore to have an emotion so pure, so good as love. That emotion when you would sacrifice anything and everything for. So to have something so pure, you must also have something so corrupt and evil as hate.

So now that I've said my piece, feel free to talk, am I right, am I completely full of horseshit (possibly, it's happened before), whatever, but I just thought it was an interesting concept, that I really hope we figure out one day is completely debunked, but yeah, don't think it's gonna happen.

I agree.

I hate Michigan
I love the Buckeyes

The hate and love balance each other out, and then you get the feeling I have about a team like...Iowa State...I am right in the middle there. No hate, no love. Just blah.

Blah rocks!!!

Hate is only "necessary" if your a Republican. :tongue2: It gives your life true meaning then.

Generally........no. Hate distracts you from being in the moment. From enjoying that beer and pizza in front of you.

Hmm I hate ignorance, I hate sushi (fish-bait to me), I hate child abuse, I hate any man who lays a hand on a woman with ill intent, I hate getting older every year, I hate parents who don't parent, I hate lazy, I hate the fact that Americans are allowing America to become a third world nation, I hate the fact that people suffer every day, I hate the phone calls that had pre-recorded messages telling me to vote for McCain or Obama, I hate 90% of the non-thinkiing garbage on television, cinema, printed page and what is now called music. Hate can be good in my estimation. Hate however will never ever cause me to take violent action. (Unless someone were to hurt my family-then the poo will hit the fan)

While the reference was made to Republicans hating, I don't hate liberal Democrats, or even liberals of any political group. They have great ideas if they would only work and we can get past the open-hand mentality.

I always felt that the line between love and hate is microscopically thin...

To really hate someone implies to me that a minute ago, you loved them with all your heart.. but SOMETHING.. caused you to cross that line.. and it was instantaneous.. not something that took time...

But the law of deductive reasoning could be used here as well
Your hate may be directed at the person or instance that is a one-off of that which you loved..
ie You hate the person that hurt the one you love

Is it okay to hate evil?

Some would say we should look at "evil" as dispassionately as possible to keep our emotional balance. If "evil" is an extreme, we as humans, can't be drawn into an extreme view of it. We could lose ourselves.

C'mon Dayton , you don't hate Michigan , I bet you don't even know her.
How old is Michigan ? do you know? When did you ever think to wish Michigan a happy Birthday , or buy her a bouquet of flowers?
Did you ever take Michigan for a walk or hold it's hand ? I think Not.
for if you knew all these things I am sure you would love her just as much as I hate her.
