Another New Years in the books...time to watch some football and generally spend the day as a slug....

Does anyone know when people started ringing in the new year? When and how did this start? Is Dick Clark a vampire?

Off to search the inter web....

What a stupid night.

Don't think I've ever had a good New Year's Eve. Last night was a reminder why I've sat a few of them out.

Sorry. Seriously. Hope the other 364 are better.
(I can identify. Not thrilled with some family news I got right at New Year's Eve.)

1) I thought Dick Clark was dead? He isn't??

2) If I remember that History Channel special correctly, versions of a New Year celebration go back to the BC's--Babylon, etc. Diwali has aspects of New Year celebration (Festival of Lights). Chinese New Year's is working on year 4000-something. People like an excuse to party. Always have.
