Thanks to all for wishing me a happy birthday. The past week has been quite an emotional rollercoaster for me. On 7/31/07, my second son (3rd child overall) was born, and is home, and healthy. When I first saw him, I sized him up as being a fullback or linebacker. :)
On the opposite side of the spectrum, my grandfather passed away yesterday, being just 2 weeks shy of reaching his 93rd birthday. He was my last surviving grandparent. I don't want to bore you guys with the details of his life or his death, but I would like to share with you one of his sayings: "If something's worth doing, it's worth doing right."

Thank you all for the kind brithday wishes.
I was fortunate enough to spend a large portion of my birthday traveling back to Cleveland from Tucson. Eight hours of door-to-door excitement.
Sorry I couldn't visit you Taos, but I was in Arizona for less than 36 hours. The mountains in the background were beautiful, by the way. It reminded me of a trip I took to Utah about 9 years ago.
And yes, just in case anyone is curious, that is far too much travel time for such a short stay.
On the bright side, I can now tell people that I have visited Tucson during monsoon season. My understanding is that the major significance of monsoon season, at least to the people I met, was that aside from the brief afternoon rain storms that appear daily, the added humidity meant that their glasses of iced beverages now formed condensation. This means that they then needed to consider using coasters lest water transfer from their beverages onto their desks, possibly making a mess of things.
I would certainly recommend to any future Tucson travelers that they eat at McMahon's restaurant. It's a wonderful steak place, but it is a bit pricy (think Hyde Park). The service was very pleasant and the food was excellent.

Isn't Taos in New Mexico? Those states are big out there, so it wasn't like it was just across the street.
