Had the Cops Called on Me for Animal Endangerment

Cops were actually pretty cool. Once they saw the breed and went over to pet him and examine him they realized that he was in no danger whatsoever. They were actually kind of apologetic and said that because there is real animal abuse out there that they take these calls very seriously. They did, however, use the occasion as a pretext to run my driver's license through the computer and make sure that I didn't have any warrants.

Overall Chicago cops are very professional and cool. You never run into the hardass hillbilly mentality that seems to afflict so many of Columbus' finest. Then again, Chicago cops truly are tough big city cops, so they don't have to make a show of being a badass as some Columbus cops feel the need to.
if you have an issue with a columbus cop, id hate to hear what you have to say about the franklin county sheriffs...

Yea, it really pisses me off when I hear that Bernese have become "status dogs" in Hollywood. They must be miserable living in that climate.

Same thing here. There's numerous people in Lincoln Park who own Rhodesian Ridgebacks with no consideration for the fact that they're unsuited to both living in the city and Chicago's climate. All these people care about is that it's a trendy breed to own.

Well at least they're no longer endangering neighborhood children while experimenting with homemade pipebombs, and blowing themselves up in the process, trying to take me out.:bonk:

Was that supposed to be a joke? You know a kid died right?

The only joke was this 19 year old adult inviting 14 year old neighborhood children over to watch him blow up his homemade pipebombs. I hope they learned something that day.

If he hadn't killed himself he should have gone to prison for the reckless and felonious endangerment of children. Zero pity for anyone so utterly stupid, dysfunctional and reckless with the lives of kids.

Actually, he and three of his friends, aged 19, 15, and 14, all took part in making and setting off the bomb. Kids do stupid stuff. Not to say it isn't wrong, because obviously what they did was wrong, but I hardly see the need to joke about an ROTC college student's death. Pretty insensitive for someone who doesn't even have the story straight.

Well, I don't know what kind of a 19 year old, adult college sophomore spends Winter break hanging out with his 14 year old "friends," and quite frankly I don't want to know.

Unless the Cincy Enquirer was wrong, of all those present, he was primarily responsible for constructing and detonating the pipebombs. As for the other 19 year old, it's my understanding that he's been arrested and indicted on felony charges. Good!

"Kids do stupid stuff..."

Again, this was not a kid, and it was something far beyond "stupid stuff." "Stupid stuff" over Winter break is getting drunk and making a fool of yourself trying to get laid with an old girlfriend. "Stupid stuff" is not exploding pipebombs in the presence of minors. That's called "felony child endangerment." He was a legal adult and someone who wanted, in a couple of years, to become a naval officer. This wasn't some juvenile mistake. It was the profoundly unsound, immature and criminal judgment of somebody who should have known better.

Quite frankly, if this adult had been affiliated with my alma mater, I would feel the same way. Far from trying to stick up for him or minimize what he did or attempt to use the ROTC affiliation to wrap him in the flag and negate any criticism, I would be disgusted and embarrassed at such a dangerous, dysfunctional loser's association with my alma mater.

Thank him for taking his sorry ass out of the gene pool and give him a Darwin Award.

It just really bothers me that nobody could have bothered to come into the restaurant first and speak with me...that their first response was to call CPD.

Well, of course nobody could handle their own problem like an adult. Why do it yourself if you can call the cops to do it for you. Just another page in the pussification of America.
Finally read the beginning of this thread - thats a cool ass dog, ORD.
Thanks, 'Bus. I always joke that I wish I could take credit for him, but the personality is all about the breed. They just universally seem to be gentle, good natured oafs. Bernese love everyone: other dogs, strangers, little kids, even cats. Definitely not a breed for anyone looking for a watch dog.

They're great big city dogs too, because they don't need a ton of exercise. A good walk once a day, and they're fine. It's far more important to a Bernese that he gets to walk along a busy street or go to a dog park and meet 50 people and 20 dogs every day than it would be to have an acre of land up on the North Shore to run around on. We have a shared backyard, and he rarely makes use of it. Most of the time, he's just content to go up to the rooftop deck and sit in the snow.
