Same with Doyel, he's a douche but it's not worth getting mad or anything. He's just being a douche. This is what douches do.

I don't really give a shit what any of the talking heads say anymore. Media these days has become overly arrogant and totally uninformative as they all are looking for any readership/viewership that they can garner, whether it be positive or negative. Some say that it is nothing more than "entertainment", but many of these "entertainers" try to pass themselves off as "journalists" and that, in my opinion, is where the problem lies. It has become nothing more than a "Look here, I am right so read/listen to me because I am so full of myself that my opinion is the only one that should be considered" and less than a "Look, here are the facts of the situation, here is what has happened to date, and here is what this humble reporter can editorialize from this but by no means makes it fact." These assholes actually think that their OPINION should be considered FACT.

I have honestly lost all respect for any sports columnist/talking head claiming to be a "journalist" because rumor, opinion and conjecture has replaced facts, analysis and actually reporting.
Doyel is the media equivalent of an internet troll.

By the way, I don't bother calling annoying, stupid, uninformed people "douchebags" and "assholes" anymore ... I just call them "Doyels" instead.

The thing that really disgusted me was how Doyle said we "quit". As someone else said in the game thread if we would have "quit" we wouldn't have won. Homan wouldn't have stuffed that run in the OT, Worthington wouldn't have made that crucial sack to push them out of FG range and ARuss wouldn't have gotten the INT to get us the ball back. It was clear Tressel wanted to do nothing other than get the FG and go home with a win and I am fine with that. If Barclay would have quit he could have sunk under the pressure after missing a FG earlier and caused us to go to another OT. But the team didn't quit and we sure as hell didn't loose. The last I checked it doesn't matter how you win, it's that you win.

Agreed, it isn't like we are in the running for the national championship game at this point, so who gives a fuck how we win? We could win by scoring only field goals for all I care, as long as we win.

For all of those who say that Tressell Ball doesn't work, or that Tressell can't win the big one, I will say this: In 2002, Tressell Ball defeated the Pac 10 Co-Champion Washington State and Undefeated Defending National Champion Miami. In 2003, It defeated the Big 12 Champion Kansas State. In 2005, it was effective against a good Notre Dame team. in 2006, it defeated Texas, and last year, came down to the final SECONDS against a Texas team that some argued should be in the National Title game. In the past 2 weeks, it has beaten two ranked teams and clinched a rose bowl berth. Yes, sometimes we lose, but we lose a lot less than we did under Earle Bruce and John Cooper, and it is our success that has bred so much contempt from the media, who cares more about a 47-45 win than a defense that has 3 shutouts.

My favorite Doyel column from this season (yes, I do have a favorite, wait and you'll see why) is this:

With the hilarious lede -
Waiting for Rich Rodriguez and Charlie Weis to get fired? Sorry. QB Tate Forcier leads Michigan to a thrilling 38-34 win over Notre Dame that lives up to its billing. These programs are back, Gregg Doyel says

Yeah, right.

Don't like the tone of the article, but I was with 12 Buckeye fans watching the game and the jist of their conversations pretty much mirrored the thoughts in that article. I have to say I was one that was screaming at the TV wondering why Ohio State wasn't trying to win the game with 2+ minutes left.

If Ohio State had lost that game in OT instead of winning it I think we'd see many posts on this board that mirrored the thoughts in that article as well.

I actually felt good about the approach at the end of the game as I don't think the psyche of the tOSU offense (or defense at that time) was particularly positive...so I guess I didn't mind the playcalling at the end of regulation as I just didn't want to give Iowa the ball with time to burn.

Having said that, I was pretty upset when after we got the ball in OT that we didn't attempt to make the FG a bit easier for Barlcay. JT has far more faith in his special teams this year than I do. 'Course he's the coach so he should know...

Yeah, right.
Doyel is a visionary. They are back...in the toilet.

By the way, did you all know that:

doyle

Doyle is a female android in the Andromeda fictional universe. She first appeared in season five and is played by actress Brandy Ledford. When Seamus Harper was stranded on Seefra with the malfunctioning remains of Rommie, he built Doyle to house the remaining core fragments of Rommie's AI, and to act as his bodyguard and friend. Doyle's most distinguishing feature was her desire to be human...

The Magpie Robin is the National Bird of Bangladesh, where it is common and known as the Doyel?

The Doyel mainly feeds on insects.
Fond of feeding in the open lawn. Often cocks tail. Loud and varied song.

Magpies are opportunistic scavengers and will eat anything once they have discovered it is edible. They are known to attack the nests of other birds and eat their fledglings. They are members of the crow family.

id call Doyle's article garbage journalism, more along the lines of something an amature blogger would right instead of a "professional"
Totally agree. Doyel is not even close to being a journalist. A vicodin addicted blogger, who's been drinking for thirty-three straight hours is more coherent than Doyel. He's another Mark May wannabe who realizes there is stability when the largest college fan base in the country hates you.

Hate Mail: Here is self-loathing in Ohio
By Gregg Doyel
CBSSports.com National Columnist
Updated Nov. 19

Depending on your perspective, I hit a new high -- or a new low -- over the weekend when I covered three games in three days, all of them featuring teams from my Ohio home. All three of "my" teams won.

And I ripped all three. Sort of. Well, I didn't "sort of" rip Ohio State. That one was thorough. And Ohio State had just won the game, the Big Ten and a spot in the Rose Bowl!

A new low, even for me. And you were mad. And I'll be honest -- I don't blame you. So have at me. We're all in agreement this week: I suck. I'll even put it in bold. "Hate Mail" gets the normal-sized letters this week, because the big, fat print is saved for me. I suck.

From: Casey

Gregg, you're an idiot. Signed, Buckeye Nation

I suck, I tell you.

From: Pete

Congratulations, Gregg! You're a douchebag!

I deserved that.

From: Jack

You are a bald douchebag.

It's funny. He gets to write trash then turnaround and address the hate mail he generated. If you write articles merely to receive hate mail so that you can address it a couple days later, it says a lot of your 'professionalism'.

It's a clever way to always have something to write about, at least. I've read enough, I gotta go take a Doyel.

The beauty is in the results for Buckeyes' Tressel
Nov. 21, 2009

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Ohio State beat Michigan 21-10 on Saturday, and heaven help the Ohio State video people who try to splice together a highlight reel of more than a few plays. Ohio State won this game because that's what Ohio State does. It wins games. But it doesn't translate to highlight reels.

I get the feeling Ohio State coach Jim Tressel doesn't care. In fact, that's more than a feeling. I know he doesn't care. For kicks, I'm going to write the words "Jim Tressel" and "style points" in the same sentence, just to do something that has never been done before.
Ohio State-Michigan video

Don't take this as a blast at Tressel, either. I've been there, and I've done that, and it just doesn't matter. It doesn't do any good, or any harm, or anything at all. The man is impervious. He's stubborn. He coaches his way, and most of the time when the game is over, his way has produced more points than the other team's way.

Saturday at Michigan Stadium was an example. Ohio State won this game like Ohio State won this season, and -- yes -- Ohio State won this season. There is very little star power on the OSU roster beyond quarterback Terrelle Pryor, but the Buckeyes won 10 games, the outright Big Ten title and a spot in the Rose Bowl. The Buckeyes won't win the national championship, but the overall results for 2009 are in, and the Buckeyes won.

They did it for four months like they did it Saturday -- grinding, waiting for the other side to break. Over the course of the 2009 season, the Buckeyes waited for their competition in the Big Ten to break, and their competition obliged. Iowa broke. Penn State broke. Ohio State played a role by beating both of them in a November to remember, what with wins against the Nittany Lions, Hawkeyes and Wolverines.

"We knew when we looked at the November schedule it wasn't going to be an easy thing," Tressel said, "but our guys don't back down from anything."
