Greg Schiano (HC Rutgers Scarlet Knights)

Grinch was supposed to be the Answer, no?

No. He clearly isn't.
I don't think we have nearly enough info to make that statement. With two co-DCs in the same backfield, and with Grinch being the junior of those, I can't see how we can assume he's had any chance to put his own imprint on the D. I'd like to see both our younger co-coordinators get a bigger shot going forward really.

You full well know Grinch isn't making any of these calls... this is Schianos group

Grinch is not used to coaching up talent.,most of the 2 star players he coached elsewhere had technique down . He needs to concentrate on teaching...not motivation
Like @BayBuck stated, "I can't see how we can assume he's had any chance to put his own imprint on the D". No way in his 1st season, is Schiano giving Grinch much to work with. Most of the calls or on ol Greg. People wanted to blame Grinch for not getting White in there sooner, but he clearly stated that White wasn't doing enough in practice to earn PT, until the past few weeks. That's honestly all I've heard from Grinch this year. I'd have no problem with saying Sayonara to Schiano, putting Grinch at DC and seeing what he can do with our defensive talent while still coaching the Safeties.

Greg the scheme sucks. We have a lot of athletes on D..check out a Dungy/Lovie Smith defense in how to employ athletes. No big plays ..zone with eyes looking at the los. Then rally all eleven to the ball to minimize missed tackles while attacking the ball and punching it out. Your over aggressive team is out of position and left in too many one on one due or die situations. And they lose those battles exponentially. Just my observation. Rely on their athleticism not technique.

I gave Fickell a great deal of grief and blame when he was Co DC with Withers' dumbass and wanted him gone. I was incorrect, it was not Luke's fault as he was able to be a part of some very good defenses once Withers was shown the door. Maybe that is the case with Grinch? But we will not know until Schiano is fucking gone. What the fuck happened in one year?
How do people still think Fickell was the one calling the defense after Chris Ash was brought in?

Do you think it was all Ash? I do not know myself. I just know that Ash/Fick was solid, Schiano/Fick was solid, but now all of the sudden was suck ass on the defensive side of the ball.
I think Fickell was an elite LB coach; I do not think he could sit in a booth (or on the sideline) and call plays during a game. I also do not think he was very good at creating an overall defensive scheme.

In terms of scheme and game day play calls, I think the 2014/2015 turnaround was 95% Ash.

Dave Wannstedt said on Fox after the game that it was either the defensive philosophy or the lack of effort by the players. I guess you can take your pick from one of these two. I will go with the philosophy/scheme and that is on Schiano.

I'm trying to look at the big picture. Last year some of these issues cropped up. They seemed to get a handle on it after the Iowa debacle. Same issues this year. We keep hearing they are fixable. When can we hope for them to get fixed, coach? 11 games and a bye and players look clueless out there. He's had ample opportunity to fix it. Time to move on in my imo.

So 2 stars know technique but our 5 stars don't?

That's why bama, LSU, and teams like Clemson know how to play defense. They get 5 stars then coach them.

I have questioned the recruiting standards at LB since 2012 when I saw Zach Boren switch over from FB late in his SR year and instantly solidify the group.

I think they need to turn the dial more in the direction of actual, instinctive LB's and a little less in the direction of SPARQ numbers.

You have to have elite athletes, don't get me wrong, but we see a disturbing track record of under performance at the LB spot the past several years.

Effort sure as shit isn't it... these kids are more talented than anyone they've played all year. There's only 1 team more talented. ONE.

YET, WE ARE 56th in total yards (which doesnt even include yesterday). So our defensive staff is about -46 spots where we should be.

We do less with so much more. Isnt talent or effort I can say that much.
