Greg Schiano (HC Rutgers Scarlet Knights)

Just WOW....I guess it is no secret that at a lot of schools the "prominent boosters" call the shots or at least have "veto authority" over athletic department hires. In your wildest imagination do you think Oregon would hire a coach that Phil Knight didn't approve of and/or Okie State would hire one that T. Boone Pickens didn't like, etc.?

Sad, but those are the facts of college sports......

Deal is off. Vols will move on and Vol fans want the AD's resignation for even considering Schiano.

I feel bad for Greg Schiano he deserves a good head coaching job; but obviously Tennesse WAS NOT A GOOD JOB. In my opinion he's really lucky he found that out before he signed on the dotted line. Anyway Tennesse's loss is Ohio State's gain (at least for ther time being).

P.S. In retrospect, Tennessee got what they deserved with the "Lane Kiffin fiasco".

There are some coaches there are not meant to be a head coach or don't want to be a head coach. If Foster wanted to be a head coach he would have after Beamer left. Brent Venables was a DC for Oklahoma for 7 years. His big move after that was a lateral move to be the DC for Clemson for the past 6 seasons. He is not going to be a head coach. He seems like the Bud Foster type and be known as the best DC in college football and not an average head coach. Urban looks like he hires good coaches that have ambitions to be Head coaches. I will take that and a national championship above the stability of VT and Bud Foster.

I did not overlook it. That was not part of the conversation. You actually never mentioned that. I would agree that winning national championships and having long term assistant coaches are not mutually exclusive.

Huh? You wrote that you would prefer "NCs" over "the stability of VT and Bud Foster," while ignoring the "stability + NCs" of Alabama and Clemson.

If you are annoyed by it then thoes are you feelings and you are entitled to them. I am not annoyed as long as he hires the right ones and not the Tim Becks of the world.

Cool. I'm not looking for an argument

I feel this might have some backlash on the UT football program as a whole. While we know the impact boosters and alumni can have on a program but I think this is unprecedented. I mean Schiano was cleared of having any knowledge of the PSU fiasco but yet they bring it up. The UT fan base are clearly a bunch of idiots.
