Packers' Aaron Rodgers confirms right thumb is broken

Aaron Rodgers never felt the need to get into details about his right thumb injury for one reason: It was never going to keep the Green Bay Packers quarterback from playing.

That's why it wasn't until Wednesday when he finally -- and reluctantly -- confirmed that it was indeed broken.

"It doesn't make a difference with me playing," Rodgers said. "It doesn't make a difference. You saw the tape on my thumb. Didn't make a difference."
.
.
.
"I feel confident we're going to go out and play well," Rodgers said. "But I don't think this is the last stand."

Aaron Rodgers says he wants to play for Jets in 2023

Rodgers' contract includes $59.465 million guaranteed in salary and bonus this season. Most of it is made up of a $58.3 million bonus that is due no later than Week 1 of this season. The Packers would absorb $40.3 million in dead money on their salary cap if they trade Rodgers before June 1. Because his bonus money is prorated, Rodgers would count $15.8 million against the Jets' salary cap in 2023 and $32.5 million in 2024, cap-friendly numbers for a player of his stature.

Aaron Rodgers says he intends to play for Jets: Former MVP reveals his desire of trade from Packers to N.Y.

A potential trade is not finalized, however, because Green Bay is "digging their heels in" to receive adequate compensation from New York.

I will say Aaron Rodgers has the leverage here, he has a $59.46M guaranteed contract with the Packers that they want to jettison. If the Jets refuse to give the Packers "an arm and a leg", Rodgers can just say: I'll just play for the packers for the $59.46M.... No other team in their right mind would likely offer anything for him unless he comes out and says he'll play for them.
